Coolant type -- ISM11 and PowerTech Kubota engines and AquaHot?

I have a gallon of coolant suitable for the ISM11 in the basement.  If I need to add coolant to the Kubota engine can I use the same coolant as i would use for the ISM11?

What coolant is used in the Aquahot?

My coach came from the factory with Texaco ELC in all three systems.  I have stayed with compatible coolants ever since.  You can do the same if you're certain no one has taken shortcuts in the past 12 years.  If you don't know what's in the genny, top up with distilled water until you can flush and refill with your engine coolant.

In the older models it is all the same stuff in the ever aquahots they use a Boiler fluid that s none toxic and a bit harder to find.

Thanks John.  I'm older too.  That is what I thought.  The pre 2003 aquahots use the same engine coolant.  The coils are outside of the hot water tank.  Later models have the coils inside the hot water tank and use the non-toxic coolant.  It is all there on Barry B's web site.  Isn't his hard work great!

Not necessarily so. My 03 aqua hot is the old style, but came from foretravel with the boiler antifreeze. There should be a tag by the aqua hot if it has the boiler antifreeze. Just have to look very careful for labels as to what type might be in there

My 97 had antifreeze in the aqua hot that tested to -52 degrees F.  diluted it with one gallon of distilled water and the air  coming from the vents seems to be hotter.  Same electric 1400 watt element source.

Mo' better.

Bob,

The spec for Aqua Hot Coolant is as follows for both engine coolant and Camco Boiler coolant:

Maximum Coolant  --  50% Coolant/50% Distilled Water
Minimum Coolant  --  30% Coolant/70% Distilled Water

Too much coolant results in poor to very poor heat transfer as it is the Distilled Water that transfers the heat.  Have had clients with 100% coolant and next to no heat transfer.  Drained half the coolant out and replaced with Distilled Water and all was well.

If you do not have an electronic control board, you can use engine coolant.  If you have an electronic control board, you need to use GRAS coolant (Generally Recognized As Safe) for which Camco Boiler Coolant qualifies.  The change of occurred in the 2003 time frame.  As mentioned above, look on heater and overflow bottle for a warning label on units needing GRAS coolant.

Thanks Rudy. Yes very noticeable  that the water works better.
