Step Cover

My step cover is extended about one third the way open. Can it be retracted without starting the engine? The step cover is air operated. Thanks. Larry

You don't need the engine on As long as there is air available to operate the cover.

with no air PSI in the system I just give mine a push to close and a pull by hand to open. Gam

Don't you have an air tank switch on your 2004? (Left side of the driver position.) That would let the 12 volt compressor fill the air tank...so that there would be adequate pressure to put the step up or down.

Brad,
I do have that switch and the information you provided is what I needed to know. However, it is the step cover inside the coach and not the entry step. I tried to push it in by hand and it would not budge. But it would not go in by the step cover switch either. Thanks.

Must be a bit different than the single air step/cover that I have on the 2002.  But, the concept is the same to build the air with auxilliary compressor instead of engine compressor.  That was handy for when I just replaced my air cylinders.  I didn't want to start it up just to build air.  But I hadn't used that switch before in the 6-7 years I have owned this coach until that recent event.  I was surprised at how fast it actually would build pressure!

I think that I am not using the right terminology to describe the step cover. It is the sliding cover that comes out to cover the step well inside the coach when underway. So, I think that it is called a step well cover. In any event, it is not mentioned in the documentation that was provided with the motorcoach.

Yup.  It was me being dense here, Larry.  I refer to the outer "thing" as a "step/cover"...and read your "step cover" as having that "/".  We have the same thing, and you were correct...I was askew.
