Crankshaft Pulley on Powertech 10KW w/Isuzu 3LD1

When my generator overheated, what I thought was a broken belt proved to be something more. Not only is the belt broken, but the pulley portion of the pulley assembly has separated from the rest of the piece. It appears that the rubber web connecting the pieces disintegrated.

I have attached some pictures of the actual part and some illustrations from the Isuzu parts book. Has anyone had this issue and been able to find this part? Will call Powertech and Foretravel Parts on Monday. Other sources? No luck on the web so far.

Thanks
Bob

@ Dave M

I have been in contact with Powertech and their Isuzu experts at Triangle Diesel. Based on my Isuzu serial number, they seem think I should replace the pulley with the one shown as piece 56 in the parts illustration in my first post. As you can see from the picture, the existing pulley looks a lot like piece 18. Piece 18 appears to be counter-weighted and 56 does not.

Triangle seems pretty sure I would be okay with 56. Any thoughts?

I just checked the pulley on our 8KW Power Tech with the same 3 cylinder Isuzu engine, and it has the non-counterweighted version (like the 56 illustration.)

Thanks Dave M and Dave K.

I ordered the part shown as #56 in the illustration since that is what the Triangle Diesel folks said I should have. Turns out it is an exact match for my failed pulley despite what the picture shows.

When I removed the belt guard, it was full of insulation material. I found that the inside of the guard face had been insulated with what looked like the same material that surrounds the generator. The adhesive holding the insulation to the guard had failed. The insulation then fell off and collected at the bottom of the guard where it jammed the pulley. When the pulley jammed, the two pieces of the pulley separated at the rubber joint.

I don't know why the guard was insulated, especially on the inside. Seems like a problem waiting to happen.... and did! >:(

Test ran the generator under load for an hour in 90 degree heat and all is well :D

Paul if you see this post, it might be related to the generator on the one you are looking at. I forgot your handle and could not find you in the members list or I would have pm'd you. Ron
