Carpet replacement on the steps.

I would like to add some cork flooring in the kitchen area (all six feet of it), but don't know what to do with the steps. I have not found any cork trim pieces for the step area.

What have you all used who have replaced the carpet on the steps?

What cork are you using (brand and  style)?

Floating or glue down?

Our coach originally had high quality linoleum self adhesive squares on the steps and risers with metal trim pieces to cover the step edge - I suppose you could do the same with the cork.

Four years ago I installed rubber stair treads along with a matching riser:
Flooring & Carpeting | Stair Treads | Rubber Tread Round Disc Pattern 36"W
Flooring & Carpeting | Stair Treads | Riser Stair Cover 36"W Walnut - Pkg Qty 3
The marbled color helps hide any scuffs but it might be too industrial looking for some.  I used walnut laminate flooring on the sides of the stairwell and scrape pieces of the rubber to trim around the top edge.

That looks just like the step covers and risers that came on the mid to late nineties Unicoaches...

I bought some of the original from the factory when I needed to repair the bottom step.

It's Millstead smoky mineral plank cork model #pf9577 5 1/2" click. That's 5 1/2" wide planks. Millstead Smoky Mineral 13/32 in. Thick x 5-1/2 in. Wide x 36 in. Length Plank There are three colors to chose from, this happen to be the sample that's in front of me.
It's a floating design, but I'm sure it can be glued if one wanted to.

The oak trim pieces are close, in the lighter color, but just not close enough for me.

Ya, we did a complete cork floor front to back-- U.S. Floors Cork Seroa Chocolate.

We looked at bamboo, but ruled it out because of weight.

Like the light weight, acoustical and thermal insulation qualities and no formaldehyde.

contrasting wood trim would look good if you can't match the color.

You are right Ernie. That's what I think I'll do.

Lowes has some nice trim. It is a topset version, so you can install your flooring and then add the trim on top. Use some real good adhesive to secure the trim overnight. Don't use screws or nails- too tacky looking.
