A corner weighed

At the 2013 Sevierville GV the Recreational Vehicle Safety & Educational foundation (RVSEF) presented a weight seminar. At the end of the GV you could have your coach 4-corner weighed.

So, for those who have never seen an individual wheel scale here is a close up pic along with placement of the scale and finally a set of duallys on the scale.

Is one of these available to rent anywhere?
A Christmas gift for the man who has everything... Ebay is showing these used for $1850.

I was weighed. I had 2k more carrying capacity but I added a couple mobility scooters so I will have to up my pressure in the front a few pounds.

RVSEF posts which rallies they are scheduled to attend. Escapees have permanent installations at several of their parks.

They will be back at Indiana I understand. Pretty big turn out for weighing. I talked with them and you need 20 weighs to get them to come. Some chapters can include it in the rally fee and meet the 20 coach requirement.

How accurate is the four corner weighing,

Do you have Public weighbridges in the USA,

We have public weighbridges here, I weighed my whole Coach at once, $40-00 Its dead accurate, I needed it for the registration of my Coach,

They also have very steep fines here for overloading,

All highways have weighbridges run by the Govt, Transport Dept, All heavy vehicles must enter and be weighed, By Law,
Drive past one, They just jail you, Confiscate the vehicle, All at your expense of course,
Its very simple, You dont drive past a weighbridge,

Big scrap yards usually have scales, Or trucking companys, Brick making Companys, They charge a small fee, But they are accurate,

They all give a print out of the results and a receipt,

I don't know about other states, but the state of Washington leaves the scales for their "Weigh Stations" turned on even when the station is not manned/weighing commercial trucks. The scale digital readouts are usually visible by looking in the glass window of the locked station's door. There is one near where we spend each fall. It has a large turn-around area plus there is a rest area right across the street if you can't make the turn within the limits of the weigh station. We weigh each axle, turn around, weigh each tire on a side, turn around, weigh each tire on the other side.

We did that this fall with our new-to-us 2003. It works and is free.

It is much less likely that an entire vehicle is overweight than that a single tire would be. RVSEF said normal truck scales are OK for axle weight but are not accurate when trying to use them off center to determine wheel weights. In fact CAT has notified their scale owners that they will not stand behind the results when their scales are used in this manner.

Henderson's Line-up in Grants Pass, OR has individual wheel scales as shown above.
Also, Oregon's truck scales are easy to use when closed. The digital read out is ahead of the vehicle for easy reading. Makes it easy to see when an axle/wheel rolls on and off the platform.

Many of our various states and counties truck enforcement portable units here in the US carry portable scales. They are sensitive to the driver who spike the brakes when pulling on them, and mishandling, which can throw them out of calibration.
±100 lb (up to 2500 lb)
±200 lb (2500...10 000 lb)
±300 lb (10 000...20 000 lb)
Most states allow a percentage of error before writing a overweight ticket.
Some of the county truck enforcement units will corner weight you if you can hook up with them when they are not busy.

British Columbia weight scales are also available when the scale is closed and the scale surface is level with the ground to the left and there is sufficient room to have right tires on the scale with left tires off the scale.

When weighing one side, I am careful to have the right side tires centered on the scale while the left side are clear of the scale. This is just possible and does require an outside observer, particularly for the rear.

I have seen scales in USA where this is not possible due to fencing on both sides of the scale.

No they can not weigh the coaches at the corners. I have not had mine weighed at the corners adn I was 500 more on the drivers side. I figured the two slides added some weight on the drivers side so I loaded the passenger side heavier.

Trent, I put them both in the front bay with out the seats. They sit next to them as does the 4 foot ramp.

Corner weights in Nac? Yes!

Last April, when we were buying our U295, from out of state but thru FOT, the state of TX required a weight cert. FOT had a driver take us to the scales at the truck stop, north on the loop, on the west side. As she drove on the scales, it looked like it was possible to get one side off, one side on without much problem. We were in a hurry with other driving errands for her to do.

Since them I have reweighed at a QT truck stop with a CAT scale, doing half on and half off. Only problem is pushing the call button from the coach seat without a stick. Tell the call box that you want a double weight. And then when you come around for the second time you may need a tall helper to reach up to the button from the pavement.

I missed the turn into a closed Oregon truck scale last night, so this morning I checked with Henderson's Line-up to see if they had time to weigh and also check the shocks. They did so had that done (weight was quite even side to side and shocks were good). However, they did find a hub seal was leaking (DS) and changed it while we waited.

2000 SIngle slide 40' U-320

Stuff in every closet, nook and cranny Joey beds in two main compartments, full plus some items in compartment behind left front tire Girard Awning in place of zip de (heavier) full propane
75% full water,
75% full deisel fuel

Empty grey and black tanks

GVWR = 34,880 Pounds

Weighed at all four corners at GV

Front Axel was 12,925 lbs
Rear was 20,250 Lbs

Total of 33,175

Still have 1,705 lbs capacity when in this condition!!!

good peace of mind,

BTW, the side to side difference (balance) was within 25 LBS.

it was $60, and took 10 minutes or less. Was done at Grandvention, suspect the RV Safety group shows up at most large ralleys I think.

Had ours weighed at the rally at Brooksville last Feb. For some reason the left rear was 1000 lbs higher than the right. I really think they misread something. I can't find anything that would cause so much difference.

We had the coach weighed at the Escapee park in Livingston, when we where staying there. We had no idea what we where doing when we moved in and it turned out I was over weight on the front left. We were under except on that one tire. Had I not had each corner weight I wouldn't have known. Definitely money well spent. They also measured the height, which is nice to know as well. Do call ahead, if I remember correct they require 24 hour advanced notice.

We also had our coach weighted at the GV. It is absolutely the best tool to find out exactly where your tire pressure should be. From the info I got I think most that were weight that weekend were within the limits. They seemed impressed with that.

We had ours weighed at the Brooksville fmca rally last Feb. and it was very well balanced. I had it weighed at Lazy Days in Tampa about 8 months earlier and their weights had the right front much heavier than the left front, so I moved things around. I was not to sure about the Lazy Days weight as they had great trouble getting the wheels onto the scales and even had to jack up several wheels to put the scales under the wheels. The scales at Brooksville fmca were very easy to drive over and he gave me a computer print out of my weights and it was cheaper than Lazy Days

I had my coach weighed at the Escapees Park in Livingston,TX after my recent interior and step upgrade project. The process was quick,professional and well worth the $55 (this included my toad). The great design and engineering that go into our Foretravel coaches is clearly evident when you see the actual loads and weight distribution on each axle. I would highly recommend this service to anyone that has the opportunity to be near a SmartWeigh site or any of the rallies that provide it around the county.
