U225 Rear Furnace Fan Bearing

The bedroom furnace on our U225 began screaming last week. Clearly a bearing in the fan motor has given out. I had to race across the yard and turn it off at the thermostat.

Looks  like a No-fun job . Anyone have any tips?

Craig, I took mine apart, drilled a small hole at the ends and oiled it with real fine machine oil.  Been working now for two winters. When you take it apart you may find that the burner head is worn out, these are hard to find.  Do a search and you will find my solution.

Yes, you can oil them, or replace the motor.

BTW, they are bushings, not bearings.

AND, the bushings are probably Ampco bronze or more commonly referred to as oil-impregnated bronze bushings. Do not, I repeat, do not use a plain old steel bushing. Your squeal will return in a hurry!

I would not attempt to replace the bushings. 

Either just oil them with sewing machine oil or other light, non-detergent oil (not 3-1) or replace the motor.

No, but am going to be reading yours with great interest!  Please take pics :whistle: !  They will make my job much easier next year.  Oh, you start by taking off the furnaces metal vent cover in the hallway and the drawer above the furnace.  I know that much.  And you may have to remove the mice nest while in there.

Edit:  Seems like I do things the hard way, but still good to get the mouse nest out of there.  Never did find how they were getting in there?

PatC, Not sure about yours but there is no need to even be inside the coach to work on the furnace motor.  It is all accessed from the outside.
Open access panel
Remove Plastic cover
Remove exhast tube
Remove Burner Assembly
Remove motor and squirrel cage
Reverse to put back together.

Gary is correct-- all serviced from OUTSIDE access door of the furnace.
