Rodent control - Fresh Cab

I've used it. You have to change it often like the directions say - every thirty days. Doing it properly, one in every basement compartment, under the kitchen sink and bathroom sink, and the other accessible areas. That is a lot of FreshCab!!! I never changed it enough, so ended up having mice before the winter was over. If I had changed it properly, it might of worked well.

Have switched to peppermint oil this year. Cottonballs with peppermint oil on them inside pill bottles with air holes. Everything I've read says that is one thing that seems to work next to completely sealing everything up.

I am also (call me nuts) employing this year, several of the ultrasonic pest repellers in the coach along with one that is suppose to set up a pulsing electronic field using your wiring. The consumer testing companies say that these don't work, but in researching the many reviews, it seems like 40% say that they have used them with success and 40% say they are pure junk. I figure that if 40% say that they work, and I use 3 different brands, one of them might work. So I have a Bell & Howell, 3 Victor units and a Pest A Cator Plus unit. I have wasted money on more stupid things in my lifetime, and gambled away money too. If 40% of the reviewers say these things work, it is as good of a gamble as anything else I've tried.

I think the best thing is to get underneath and find the tiny holes and seal them up. Steelwool and spray on foam. I am open on someone guiding me to the many access points on the '94 U225.

Oh, and someone has a undercarriage spray that is suppose to work. It is some type of oily substance impregnated with a very heavy dose of peppermint oil.

Looks interesting. Spruce smell. I hope someone has tried it and reports in.

We have been using Mouse Magic. Peppermint small.

It looks to be a bit cheaper. I put one packet in each bay and one in back by the engine when the coach goes into the barn (garage) for the winter. No mice.

We have been having a problem all summer with mice pooping on our front step. I tried one of these ultrasonic devices. No more mice or chipmunks! I will plug a couple of these in the bays where there is an outlet as well. Belt and suspenders, you know.

I second the Peppermint Oil. Get the real Peppermint Oil, not the extract. We use the cotton balls too but just set them in tin foil "cups".
We have used it for years on our boat and our various motorhomes and have had nothing try to move in since. Makes them smell nice too.

We used it last winter and had no problems with mice or squirrels. We'll use it again this year. Be sure you change it regularly. We also purchased Squirrel Stopper and sprayed it around the engine and transmission area, as well as spreading powder around the motorhome perimeter on the ground

It's called Animal Stopper. It's made by the same company that makes Squirrel Stopper spray. I purchased both at Menards.

Umpteen years ago , we bought these small round plug in units by Woodstream , litz Pa. Dw got them at Wallmart .Put two in each room and four in the coach .Most of them are five years old or more . Not one mouse since in house or in the coach either .Don't have bugs or even stink bugs inside either .Unit is said to give off a sonic ultra sound radio wave that gets it done . Know nothing more about them except , they work . My two outside cats used to hang out in the basement, but gave up and do the cat thing outside and around the out buildings . Brad Metzger

Irish Spring bar soap has worked well for me the past five years. My son uses it to keep mice out of the upholstery in cars he stores on farmer's property and told me about it. I had tried mouse bait before (that did seem to attract them...). Irish Spring (Original) is inexpensive, seems to work (and smells good too).

Peppermint oil! Never a problem with mice or pack rats, but doesn't seem to work for chipmunks. Get it from Amazon.

After discarding ancient herbs and spices from umpteen bottles in the kitchen of this home we have recently moved into, I saved about 8 that have shaker tops with largish holes. 3 or 4 cotton balls in each one and a goodly dose of peppermint oil, then one in each bay all around the coach. Hopefully enough, maybe too much ... but I suspect that the entire coach will be eyewateringly minty. I haven't had to "winterize" things for quite some time ... need to get that procedure dialed back in. I will check at intervals to see how things smell.

Winterized today and decided on using the Irish Spring trick. It has worked great keeping deer away from the yard for 3 years, so I'd like to try this in the motorhome. (besides, my first job out of college was with Colgate Palmolive Peet and I used to work in a plant that made Irish Spring back in the early 70's...Jersey City, NJ...long gone and now the location is near Liberty RV Park)

An aside...
One of the boat brokers we worked with said "Put open Irish Spring bars around the boat while trying to sell it. Gives it that 'Fresh Boat Smell' buyers like." Of course after 3 years we had washed then all away. Never did have to buy more soap.

At our place in Tucson we have a big problem with packrats. Any vehicle sitting for several days is targeted by the little beasts. Almost immediately they start chewing up wiring and whatever else they can get their greedy little paws on. Anyhow, over the years we have tried all of the remedies we've heard about including peppermint, moth balls, steel wool, poisons and so on. The only thing we've had success with is light. On cars and trucks, open the hood and keep a light on under the vehicle. On the rig, we surround it with LED rope lights. We use one set of LEDs even when dry camping. So far, so good.

I have used most of the products listed here - especally the pepperment oil - they all worked OK. I use drier anti-wrikle sheets now and they seem to work as good as everything else.

Found our first 2 turds tonight and will do something in the next day or two. Will use a combination of peppermint oil in all bays and strategically through out cabinets, irish spring and a few traps inside.

Was wonder how your all have fared over the past two years?

Place where we stored our coach has had a red squirrel problem for years. (Inside a pole barn). Owner told us the little red buggers had filled the bow of his boat with pine cones. He bought a Class A that resides next to our coach during the winter.

I "dosed" his coach and ours with peppermint oil soaked cotton balls retained by cutting aluminum cans in half, cutting the sides of each bottom half of can down enough to let the sides be folded in to retain the cotton balls.
Not a single pine cone in either vehicle after six months! The owner said he hasn't had any problems or even seen red squirrels in the pole barn since we started using peppermint oil.
When we got our coach home this spring I went looking for all the aluminum cans. The ones in the engine compartment were still sitting where I put them last fall. The ones in the dash and cabinets still smelled like peppermint. The DW still has faith in the drier sheets--so a whole box of sheets throughout the coach was her contribution.
Which was/is best? Don't know but better safe than sorry!!

"Fresh Cab" still seems to be working well for us. Just remember to replace with new as recommended on the box.

Like the Fresh Cab, as said though it needs regular replacement. It is also good at Christmas, makes EVERYTHING smell like Christmas trees !

No mice problems in the 7 years since I've used the Irish Spring; we had a number of little fellows in the bays in the year prior to that. My son stores a number of his older cars in a farmer's shed; he uses Irish Spring and has had no mice problems; he's the one who told me about it.

We went out the evening that we found the mice turds after seeing the furry little fellow scamper from under the passenger seat to under the steering wheel. We picked up a fancy mouse trap some steel wool and some original Irish Spring. Put everything in place. I put the mouse trap in the path of the mouse using peanut butter as bait. Sat back in my stressless with the TV on and the little bugger came out and started sniffing around the trap. Climbed up on top. I called my DW to witness and he took off. A few minutes later I went back into the bath room to do my evening pre bed stuff and I heard a loud snap. Although I was very tempted to see what I caught I figured I'd wait until the morning. Sure enough I got him. Later we went to Ace and got a few more traps and some peppermint oil. Now the coach smells like a giant peppermint stick. No more droppings yet. Still have the other traps set and will continue with the peppermint oil.
