Will a 22" LED fit in the bedroom?

We want to replace our 13" Panasonic TV in the bedroom.  Looks like a 19" would fit pretty easily.  But we would like to go bigger if possible.  Would like to go with a Samsung 22" UN22F5000 (20.2 X 12.7 X 1.7 Inches w/o stand) or Vizio 22" E221-A1 (20.3"W x 13.3"H x 1.7"D w/o stand).

I searched and searched but I just couldn't find anything about a 22" TV in the bedroom with the same floor plan.  :help:

Has anyone installed (or had installed) a 22" LED in that spot?  If you have overhead cabinets on the driver's side, can you still open them?  What mount did you use?

I've attached a terrible picture of the area, with the TV on the driver's side, and vanity on the passenger's side in our WTBI floorplan.

Would love to see any photos of bedroom TV installs with this floorplan.

I have a 22" Samsung LED HDTV in our bedroom and, although the two bedroom installations are quite different, it doesn't appear to me that the Samsung will fit *in* the cabinet of your existing TV. But if you remove the existing TV you might also be able to remove the cabinet. I installed a full-motion mount for ours since the 22" Samsung fits almost exactly between the door jamb and the outer wall... the mount is secured to the forward bulkhead (our RV never had a TV cabinet in the bedroom).

Another way would be to find a nice piece of walnut to secure over the old TV opening in the cabinet and then securing a mount to that for the Samsung.

I did something for my front TV that you might consider.  I took the frame off, then I put a board across the middle of the opening (mounting with l brackets on the top and bottom sides of the board) and attached a fixed rail mount on the board.  Then I put the frame back on the opening and put the TV in front of it with the rail mount.  A waste of the TV cabinet space, but it does allow for a littl heat dissipation, if needed.  Then you'd be limited in size only by how far the TV sticks out, so as not to interfere with that cabinet door.

If you take the box out, you can attach the flat tv mount directly to the wall. The tv in my 2003 is attached that way.

I installed a 22" in a setup similar to yours by mounting at the surface of the old enclosure.  After the old TV is removed I screwed in a base of 3/4" MDF to which a flat "L" shaped MDF was attached with bolts from below, and springs, washers, and wingnuts in slots cut in the "L" MDF.  The TV was mounted to the face of the "L" and could slide in and out for access to the cavity.  There was room enough in the cavity for a subwoofer to improve sound quality.  The opening below the TV previously filled by a VCR (remember those?) is now occupied by stereo speakers and is covered with speaker cloth.  The dangly thing below the left corner of the TV is an infrared/RF repeater for the remote that sends instructions to the satellite receiver in the closet.  Hope your project goes well - check dimensions and clearances carefully and you'll be fine.  Good luck.

I have a 22 inch in my current coach but my last two would not fit those unless I put them on the outside.

Here's a couple of pics of converting to a Vizio 23" in the bedroom ;  worked out OK, cleared the cabinet door but protrudes a bit into the doorway....no knots on the head yet.

The fact that these LED HDTVs are so light and so thin makes installation a lot easier than it was with the old CRT models. Plus, if you like, you can easily power them off a cigarette-lighter-plug inverter (although I use the pure-sine model I got off Amazon for $79 both my HDTV sets worked fine off the modified-sine-wave $19 versions... along with the BluRay players).

Our angled tV cabinet in the BR is on the Curb side.  We put in a 19" Visio LED TV because we had one.  A 22" one isn't much bigger.  Ours has front facing speakers which many LED do not. It fits well. Tucks in nicely out of the way.  Finished the inside of the old TV box so that a DVD player and printer fit in there nicely.  TV mount is attached to the vertical side of the old opening.  It has enough friction to stay where you put it and still allow adjustments.  110v available in the existing TV opening.  I would be surprised if the TV weighs 10 lbs.

We don't use it much but having the printer (and our cell phone boost amp) in that space is nice.  Tv sort of acts like a door.  When we do want to watch something it has a great picture.

Here is a Samsung 22" TV mounted in a setting that appears similar to yours.  I used an under-cabinet mount turned upside down and fastened to a 2X4 that I installed across the existing frames at the bottom of the cabinet.  It could obviously be mounted in a variety of other ways.

Wow....Thanks for all the responses!!!!  Looking like it can be done.  Now I just have to decide if I'm so cheap as to wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday or starting buying things now.  :))

Actually, I had never considered removing the box the old TV fit in.  I kind of like the idea of keeping that for storage space.  But if the TV fits better without it, it may have to go.

If you haven't posted pics of your bedroom TV install, keep them coming.  I am still getting ideas.

Also, if you have some sort of LOCKING swing arm mount, any info is appreciated.  If I keep the existing "TV BOX" and mount the new TV to rest on the surface of it, I would like to be able to swing it out of the way to access the connections on the back as well as anything stored in there.

If you use a fixed mount on the face of the cabinet, you can make a door to the back area in the wardrobe to reach connections and store items.  If you want to use it for storage you will need to make a floor in the cabinet as it is now open to the drawer underneath.

Here is the mount I used.  Pretty easy to adjust tension and it holds where you set it.  $15 at Amazon.  There are some others where the mounting plate comes off of the arm.  Might make it easier to mount the mount to the box, plate to TV and then on to the mount.  Some have mechanical locks.  Once we put our tv in the closed position it just does not move while driving.  Its the FT ride you know.

I found some right angle cable connectors as well that have a threaded end for the cable and the other end is a push on (no screwing around) end.  If you stress the connection it will pull off without damaging the TV.

Almost all tvs come with HDMI connections this day.  Make sure yours does, 2 are good.  They make connections simple, one cable.

We could still use the space for the printer and DVD player if the angled upper cabinet was removed but it works fine as is.  Lots of touch up to do if it comes out.  Our cherry wood is lighter under things that have protected it from light.  PO had a clock mounted on a flat place.  We took it off and had to cover the spot with something more artistic.

Shop around for TVs.  Amazon is pretty competitive.  Black Friday deals can be inviting but I hate crowds and lines.  5% off with your Target Red card at Target everyday.

Let us see how it turns out.  There are so many great ways to do stuff that folks share on this forum.

The Panasonic sits on its own shelf.

The 22" Vizio I replaced it with has a removable/interchangeable  Vesa 'plate'/stand holder so the Vesa plate is almost flush with the bottom of the TV.
I used a couple pieces of angle bracket  to mount the TV against the face of the enclosure.

Although mine is a different layout, this is how I installed my 19" and DVD player below it. There is enough room for the doors to the left to open. I used a small turnbuckle and bracket on the rear of the TV to hold it tightly in place.

I have the same layout and switched to a flat screen. We are happy with the look but I need to adjust the angle (down) for better viewing. When you buy your tv check the viewing angle to be sure it does not get dark from a low viewing angle. I was looking from the side but did not consider the low angle till I was done and laying in bed.
