Fan-Tastic Vent Reduce Fan Speed

Even on the lowest setting there are times when the fan pulls more air and is noisier than I'd like. Anyone know of a way to lower the speed?

Hi Ken - What about a rheostat?

It's just a DC motor. Adding a series resistor will drop a few volts for you. Make sure it is rated for enough power to handle the voltage drop and current.

If you measure the voltage and current at the motor, I will be happy to aid in the resistor selection. A rheostat instead of fixed value resistor might be best so you can fine tune it.

The manufacturer probably set the minimum voltage a bit high to make sure it starts and continues to run at the lowest setting.

You can use a PWM dc motor speed control.  A pulse width modulation controller creates very little heat and uses less current to run the motor at slower speeds.  Similar to this one at Amazon for $13.

KEEDOX? NEW 6V-90V 15A DC Motor Pump Speed Controller: Amazon.com: Industrial &

It is a 15 amp controller. A lower amp one would probably work for this fan.  You can find then for under $10.
