The litter box

We travel with two dogs and a cat. In our SOB and now, in our Foretravel, placement of a litter box has been an issue. We settled on placing it against the wall between the recliner and the kitchen counter. Found we (Molly) didn't like that plastic enclosure in the living area. The couple who bought our SOB visited and showed off some of the changes they had made. One was a wood litter box which looked fine in the living area.

The other guy is a skilled woodworker. I'm not. Molly found a guy who could do the work so we designed a litter box of cherry veneer (matches the cherry interior) and a melamine lined interior. We had him add legs tall enough, and offset far enough, to clear the wood chase at the wall.

All was well until we realized the final product was tall enough to force the recliner well away from the wall. Moved the box to abut the buffet (Molly's idea) and all is well. Surprisingly, there is NO interference with seating (for two) at the dining table. If we have four, we move the box to it's original position.

Great idea... and a classy piece of furniture. We expect we'll have a cat and two dogs when we start snowbirding in a couple of years so we're always looking for ideas. Thanks for the post.

I saw somewhere (here?) that a few folks had placed the litter box in the basement with a hole cut in the floor, in one of the cupboards,  and a little ramp for the cat to get up & down.  Very slick solution.

Yes I did a few as the motorhome was the cats or dogs coaches  and the humans were just there to wait on them.

I had a small cabinet under the fridge, where one would keep the vacuum hose.  Removed the cabinet door and put the litter box in there.  Put a sliding curtain over it for them.  They have no problem going in and using it.

I do like that classy piece of furniture, but have no room for it!!!  Must be nice.

We keep our litter box in the shower. I made a door holder from a hanger to hold the door open enough for the cat, but while the lab was alive not large enough for her to get to the litter box as she would eat the droppings. Silly dogs. The lab is gone now , but we still use the same system as it works

Alot of great ideas here.  Makes me wish our cat liked to travel.  We took him with us one time.  He was fine during the day but when the lights went out he started.  He would run from the front to the rear and cry.  After 3 nights I was glad to head home.  We havent tried since, but may give it another go.  Maybe he will like the FT better than the SOB.

Do you let him go outside at night when you are at home? Cats are firm believers in tradition, so if you let him out at home he expects to go out on the road, too. Ours loves to travel, and has always been an indoors cat ever since we brought her home as a kitten. She does insist on riding in her kennel, though, whenever we're underway.

He was a stray that came and stayed at a young age and has been inside for alot of years.  I think we will try it again.  We really miss him when we travel.

Maybe he needs a night light. Our cat likes to sleep all day and then play at night. We try to keep him awake in the daytime and then he sleeps part of the night. Now it is cold so he likes to lay in front of the heat registers or with us on the bed
