U280 Vertical channel?

Looking at front TV mod, hanging it like we did in Old faithful 88ORED.

Can I get to the floor area from the upper cabinet on drivers side? Trying to avoid surface mount wire moulding.

Passenger side has the spare bundle of front to back wires.
Need to run; power, cable and HDMI so 3/4" of wiring.

John, Yours may be different..on my 95 U280 there is a bundle of wires above the passenger seat in the cabinet, it terminate under the dash left of the center of dash. Could be you have the same bundle.

Gary I will look. Thanks, I thought those went to the back.
Guess there's another set that does that.

Another place would be if there is a thermostat mounted behind the driver chair on a wooden channel. If you have that the wires can be run down that and then wherever you would want them to go

This is what I want to do to my U280

I am prepared to use wire-mold but it sure would be nice another way.

FRONT MOUNT 36" SAMSUNG WITH SOUND BAR & WOOFER (Bluetooth)
I had a 1/4" piece of aluminum cut and bent to the shape of the visor area where the old TV was. I used the electrical and the 12V, and cable that was there.

I looked at several mounts - but chose the one at SAMS - it fits up to a 40". I played with the arm in several locations and determined that MIDDLE - MIDDLE would work nicely.

I pre-drilled all the holes for the mount and then secured the plate 2" centers into the fiberglass - counter sunk with 1" stainless tapered screws and painted it rustolem - almond, good for the Wife.

Ran all the cable in black tube and threaded it into the void space, HDMI, cable and power, and sound bar connection, we even had the Wii hooked up.

Looked at straps, locks buckles then decided on 2 eye bolts with a painted aluminum rod with thumb screws on and o rings on the ends. the placement was wider than the tv where the existing snap-on screws were for the ceiling. Unscrew both ends, flip up TV and slide it in and screw in the thumb screws - not a jiggle down the road in 6 months and 2200 miles and difficult to see unless your close up while watching TV.

Hope our experience helps yours

The mod on your '88 was nicely done!.  The ingenuity of the Forum members never ceases to amaze.  Did you ever consider painting the bracket and back of the TV the same almond color?  Would make it more "invisible" in the stowed position.  Just a thought from a armchair engineer...

Chuck, thanks!

I like that idea!

When i get the 46" for the U280 I will first, check with Wife then if its ok, paint it.

It doesnt get a lot of ware and tear so it should stick.

I have used both Rustoleum Paint for Plastic and Krylon Fusion for painting (restoring) hard plastic parts in old automobiles.  They both seem to work well, and are very durable.  Krylon does have a wider selection of colors.

Good job.  I want to do the same with my U280 and have been watching for ideas.

How did you secure the eye bolts?

Dan

I took out the snaps #6 screw, put in (same hole) a #10 coarse eyebolt with silcone 2.5in long.

The nice thing there is very little weight on the eyebolts, most is on the hinge of the drop down mount.
