House Battery Hookup

I have a 91 Unihome Grand Villa and i am attempting to replace the batteries for both the truck and house.  I have the truck battery hooked up and put a tester on the battery cables for the house batteries.  i am getting a 24 volt reading.  Does this mean that I need to hook the two twelve volt house batteries up as a 24 volt system?

Thanks!

Jon

@Jon I'd be very surprised if the coach has a 24volt system. Never heard of one in a Foretravel. My 92 is 12volt. If you are seeing 24volt it is not wired correctly or you are not measuring correctly.

It would be very helpful if you could post pictures of your batteries and show where you are measuring from.

NO, NO.  Your coach IS 12 VDC just as Ken said.

With 12 VDC batteries, the batteries are wired in PARALLEL.  So positive to positive of the batteries to positive to house.  Same for negatives.

Jon,

As Brett wrote:  If you are seeing 24v you must not turn anything on as it will burn out!  Hopefully you are just measuring from the wrong places.  Batteries should be connected positive to positive and negative to negative so as to to give 12 volts. There are systems that are 24v start 12v run that are  around but I doubt that you have one of those!

Please post a pic if you can so we can see what you have.  Also where are you measuring from?

If you would put your year and model, engine model and build number in your signature line (It's on your profile page) it will help others answer questions
