u280 remove-replace microwave

Little guidance please ::)

Looked in history to do this found nothing specific.

Looks like there are brackets on the bottom sides of micro, spice rack covers the left one.
  Guess I take off the spice rack?
Found no top bolts in top cabinet.

What is the box chase right rear?

All screws out.
What are straps at the back, when pulled down seemed to un clip at back, but no movement.

Help ::)
It is vented from the front fan and the main house exhaust fan.(no thru roof vent)

Photos to follow.

Putting in samsung or ge.. any reason one or other.

I just had ours out in the 95 240 so would think it is same. I found a screw front top left and one thru the side cabinet on right after pulling off the top vent of micro. This is the plastic vent that goes across top of machine. Once that is off you can push up on the left side plastic vent and it will just come off.. Yours may have a screw holding the top vent in place -centre of micro thru metal cabinet.. Look thru the right side above touch pad to see if a screw is sticking thu rt side of metal cabinet. This will tell you where to look for it on left inside of spice cabinet.
Look underneath the bottom of micro and you (if same as mine) will see 2 little screw bolts. These hold the tabs that go thru back supports fastened to wall. Undo them and remove. The next part you will need help as when you pry those tabes down it will release the micro and swing down while still sitting in the base of wall mounts. Feed the wire thru hole as it comes down then lift out. Took me a few minutes to fine those 2 screws in left and right sides as usually there are 2 bolts from top cabinet that support the micro front.

Regardless of brand, be sure with the chosen model you can actually open the microwave door once it's installed.  Some are hinged on the side and depending on your cabinets that could impede opening the door.  The Sharp 187x series convection microwaves that our FT came with did not have this problem.

There is a line on this, we replaced ours this last spring and had some dialog on the forum about it.  Ours is a 91GV and had the Sharp micro/convection oven.  We replaced it with a newer,(almost the same), Sharp oven.  If you need the model no., I can get it for you.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

as for which micro - convection bake important? Warming capability? Proofing bread?

Choice more RE features than brand I would say. Wife wants good convection and warming drawer capability, I want proof capability for my bread making - we settled on GE, sharp and Samsung have nice choices. Sharp seems to have a quality advantage

I had Foretravel remove my no longer functioning convection oven when I was at the factory last time. It took six of their technicians, including the one who originally installed it during production, to figure out how to remove it. They didn't remove the spice rack. The brackets screw to the back wall. There are a lot of screws. The convection oven is really heavy so you'll need someone with upper body strength to catch the oven when you release it from the brackets.

I changed the radiator in a parking lot, but I chickened out after a couple of attempts to remove the convection oven. :))

Johb H,

I have taken every screw out except pic #744 and the last photo. These are covered by wood from the spice rack,

My micro does not have any screw in center top to take out or side screws.

The tabs at rear, do they just unlock or pull down further than 1/2"?

Not sure if it would work or help, but when I was remodeling houses and needed to mount new counters on the wall, I would take a car scissor jack, place on counter  and jack the cabinets to height. Something similar might work for catching the weight of the oven. Don't know, but its a thought.

Original model Sharp convention microwaves have two levers on the back bottom that pull down a couple of inches to release the microwave from the wall mount.  Levers are 'locked' in place with small bolts that have a round plastic ring around the bolt head.  Remove locking bolt, hold microwave toward the wall, pull two levers down.  Microwave weighs about 60 pounds and the back bottom edge is 'sitting' on the bottom of the wall bracket which is supporting ALL of the weight.

Need two people to tip microwave from wall, pull power cord through cabinet bottom hole, and lift off the wall bracket.  Be careful to not damage side walls and stove top or whatever is below microwave.

actually the back tabs are only located in the wall mounting plates about 1/2" and that is all I had to pull down on them. Same micro as mine. There must be a screw you are missing and to get to it must be in cabinets on either side. I had to take the plastic cover over the under cabinet halogens off to see it..

 John, thank you for comment. I know it bugged you because it did the same to me untill I saw that screw sticking in thru cabinet side and I thought "that does not belong to the cabinet so it must be the one holding micro in"?
Dig deeper in that cabinet on right and there it was, hiding behind (in my case) a plastic halogen wiring cover.
Glad you found it.
