Magellan RoadMate vs. Good Sam Rand McNally GPS

We're looking to purchase a GPS for our FT and wonder if anyone has any comments, pros/cons on either the 7" Magellan or the 7" Rand McNally?

We have a Garmin NUVI 2595. Only a 5" screen but it has lifetime traffic and map updates. We love it. I can't say it has never pointed us in a direction I did not want to go but always catches up very fast without too much complaint.

Currently have the Garmin 465 LMT for truckers.  It has a lot of features mostly for trucks but apply to rv's as well.  Touch screen, wifi for your phone, traffic updates and more.  Been looking at the Good Sam Rand McNally as a friend has one and he loves all the details it provides.  DAN

I have the 465 as well and like it, but, wonder why we bother with all this equipt when we have excellent maps to use. Simple to follow signs for the next place to go to!

Agree with you most of the time about GPS John. I use ours mostly for arrival times. They are really outstanding in that respect. Also good for lane choice navigating big cities where you never have been before. Easy for me to daydream and pass up a turn too.

The best use was just a couple of months ago in Puerto Penasco. With no WiFi and badly scaled tourist maps, the iPad with Sygic's Mexico dialed in everywhere we wanted to go for the first couple of days until we had the town figured out. Nice to be able to discover a good restaurant and then just hit favorites so you can come back some other time even if a year later.

With a Benchmark Road Atlas (or Michelin), AAA's Indian Country map and Church's Southwest Camping Destinations, you really don't need much else.

John, where are you in Mexico? Returning to the states before summer?

San Carlos- Sonora on pad next to our friends home here in Tecalia private park. It is on east side of road across from Ocean just before Totonaka RV park. We are next door also to a home being built and today they poured (concrete pumper truck) the roof of his 58' x 18' RV garage. 5 bedrooms 5 bathrooms, just a small casita!!!

Love the cement pump! Have stayed at the Hotel Creston several times. A mile down the road towards town.
