Isuzu 8000 watt generator

Our Powertech PTS IDL8000 generator has an Isuzu 3LB1 engine.  The front side of the engine has two original hoses, one of them has what seems to be a check valve.  These hoses run from left to right.

Anyone know what is carried in the hoses and if the pictures show it to be a check valve?  We are replacing hoses and belt, so it's time to replace these also.

What are the two silver painted hoses used for?

Barry, That valve looks like a crankcase breather valve. "PCV valve"

I don't see anything wrong with those air hoses.  Do you?

I can see the cracks. Rubber hoses that are painted?

Could the valve be a 'back flow' preventer?

If you take off the valve and try to blow through it from both sides, you will find that it is a  check valve. 

I actually removed it, thinking it was a filter,  and taken it to the auto parts store for a replacement, only to look like a fool when the salesperson told me what it was.  Don't let this happen to you.

Look like breather hoses.  If the engine looks clean - no sludge or whitish looking deposits - inside the oil fill then the valve is working.  Look closely it's more than likely that the paint is cracked not the hose.  You probably don't need to replace it.

Thanks to all who helped us with these hoses. Powertech was also not sure.

Decided to replace all hoses and the photos show the finished job.  Hoses seem to be crank case ventilation, as some engine oil was present inside hose.

Chose to re-use the check valve as I did not know for sure about its part number. Check valve had an arrow and the word UP, but when I blew into it, air would only flow opposite to arrow. Figured out the words must mean install with arrow pointing up, not in reference to air flow direction, probably from an OEM use of this valve.

We did find radiator hoses & fan belt which will go on when compartment is finished being relined. We enlarged the compartment exit hole a little to keep the radiator fan air flowing out easier.
