Block Heater (M11)

I replaced my burned out block heater today. Pretty straightforward. I drained out quite a bit of coolant and swapped old part for new part. My old cord was still good but I replaced it too. Got the part from Farm and City Supply. I'm thinking it was around $80 for the element and cord. Barry over at beamalarm.com has good instructions. Block Heater

You got it, Toyota!  Just make sure you have all the air out by venting the top of the cooling system. Easy to tell when you start up as the temp will go up to the thermostat setting, open and then the temp should stay there or drop down a bit. Good to check level after that.

Block heaters were meant to be shut off before the engine is cranked. Operating in trapped air can burn one out quickly.

Written for general knowledge without pointing fingers so don't take offense. ;D

There's even a reminder attached to the cord. It says to unplug and wait a few minutes before starting. Never really thought about it. Thanks.

Perfect timing, I plan to do mine soon.  I was dependent on the aqua hot this winter and must get mine fixed before next winter.  Did you have to replace the gasket on the housing to the engine and if so would you please include the part number for the gasket.

I did not remove the housing, only the element. It has a crush washer.

WOW!!  That is great news, I thought the housing had to be removed on the M11.  Sounds like this might be easier than I thought.

Timely post.  I used my aqua hot engine heater this morning for the first time for two hours.  M11 started right up.

Need to test the block heater.  Typical Foretravel.  A backup for almost every system in the coach.
