Recommendations for reseating Windshields in So Cal

Windy day... High pitched shrieking near ear bleeding intensity. Very glad that it was a short trip. We had a similar sound come and go while making the FOT & Xtreme pilgrimage, but nowhere near the decibel level of today. I should have brought this up while at either one of the two Foretravel rejuvenation clinics we spent some quality time at. Long story short, I was sufficiently motivated to take a close look to try and find the cause of the obnoxious noise. I was able to detect that there was an actual gap at the bottom right hand corner of the drivers side windshield. The rubber gasket has either shifted to towards curb side or shrunk somewhat. The windshield does not appear to be glued in at all. I tried with out success to get it to move though I was able to work in a plastic putty knife between the rubber and the glass with a little soapy water. I fear that at the very least the windshield (maybe both) will have to be removed and reset, preferably with a new gasket.
Any SoCal recommendations to do this job properly? The prospect of this issue not being properly resolved promptly instills fear in my pocket!

hope they don't have to come out- most shops will do it, but if they crack it is on your nickel - FT glass is about $3000 per side installed if they crack or break it - R&R goes pretty quick so shouldn't be too bad for a seal and labor if that is it -

Had two new ones put in last fall by TN RV - both are doing great

Good luck Art

I am having the pass' side glass in 240 replaced (hopefully by Ins) and am told it is pretty expensive. Shipping is heavy from Texas to here too. May be a few weeks wait

Hi Don & Tys,

We had zero noise from our windshields, but everything else sounds familiar.  Our passenger side had shifted (dropped) ever so slightly at the center which cause it to be just out of place enough that in a driving rain water would come in.  We ended up having both windshields pulled and re-seated.  But the important part was re-bonding the front cap and dash back together, as that's what allowed the windshield to shift.  Without fixing the underlying problem, I think they would have just shifted again.

Here is the thread about it:
An Xtreme Weekend in Nacogdoches

If I remember correctly the gasket was about $140, and just over a coach buck to remove, fix the cap, and re-install.  Each piece of glass would have been $750, luckily I didn't need them.

Had both windshields replaced at Keystone RV at different times, $1,025.00 each including Pa. tax, the job was very professional by a local highly skilled outfit that came to Keystone, they have done many Foretravel & RV windshields.  Never any issues, been about 5 years ago, still happy.

Dave, did you remove the gasket locking strip before you tries to reposition the windshield?

Hmmm. INteresting pricing. Â I had FT glass, and it was about $1,300 for the glass, and then $600 each for crating and shipping, and then install and tax - was under $3K a side but not by much, GEICO paid the bill

I had windshield coverage from them (extra cost) so my out of pocket was $50.......

Don, FWIW, when we were having our TV mods done at 'RV Specialist'  they happened to crack our DS window. Don't know if I was just lucky or what but haven't had any issues since they replaced it. Have no idea where they got the window but looks like they knew what they were doing.  Believe they are on Mira Mar Way up by my house.

In my case at Ketstone, they removed the locking strip, but not the rubber outer molding, they were smooth, knew exactly what was next, 2 workers, 1 leader, smooth.

Pricing, they have no idea where the glass came from for either side, but both have same shaded area & color.  When / if another is needed, think Keystone will have a good chance, they also brought in a local NOVIS man for a large stone chipm they also did the perfect repair, that cost $45.00 as I recall.

Sometmes beibg cheap works OK ;D

I found a temporary cure for our shrieking windshield... What a relief not to have to listen to that noise while driving from Menifee up to Idyllwild (from about 1400' to 6000' up the mountains). I don't consider this a permanent fix by any means, but hopefully it will let us choose the time and place of a permanent fix. I use this Scotch waterproof mastic tape for all kinds of things and now, I can add another use! Time will tell to see how long this stuff will stay put, but so far so good and it's a nearly invisible fix.

I used gorilla tape as a temp fix.

If you hwh six pack's run solenoid is bad it will slowly let the ride height drop.  Finally the tire bottoms hard enough to twist the coach.  Yours may be fine?

Just ordering a new Pass side windscreen from FOT as this has a crack.  Glass (supposed to be a complete match from original) and around $600 shipping to here in Canada. Has to come in Vacuumed, treated wood-anti bug stuff!!
Should be here in 10 days, we will see.
Glass shop does many big coaches for local dealers so should be good.
