Dash warning beeper

I finally got the Foretravel out this year. Everything worked as it should until I started back home. I forgot the TV antenna was up, but I saw the light on the dash and lowered it. The light went out, but the beeper would not quit. I tried everything but no luck. I drove home with the beep driving me nuts, but everything else was OK. I did a search here and found lots of ideas, but nothing worked. I looked in the book at the wiring diagram. It is interesting because printed on it is says "Ant wire causing beep but no light". This was not put on the diagram by the PO. It looks like it was part of the Foretravel copy. Or maybe the antenna is not the problem at all. I unplugged the connector by the beeper, four or five wires, and the beeper quit. It seems like nothing else is affected, but I don't like to "fix" things this way. Any ideas appreciated. Mark

The "annunciator" is supposed to work for several purposes including turning signal, antenna, low air pressure, high water temperature, etc.  Try cleaning the contacts at the dash ground bus first.  You may have already performed this cleaning judging from your post.  Nonetheless it is worthwhile repeating.

Hi Peter. I found an old post about the ground bus bar, probably yours. I cleaned and tightened all the connections, no luck. I am thinking after reading more old posts that maybe the alarm is sounding because of the leveling HWH system. It has been real wet here and maybe some of those connections need attention. I do want to get the beeper fixed, some of the alarm functions are important! Mark

On my 2001 the annunciator is a small black cylindrical object located behind the dash on the left side.  There are two wires that connect to it.  There is also a rotating cap on the other end that will make it quieter or louder depending on whether the holes are open or not.  Mine wouldn't shut off so i just spliced in a switch into one of the wires leading to the annunciator. The switch is mounted on the lower part of the dash on the left side down by your left knee.  The back side of the dash came off with out too much effort (just courage) to get access to the annunciator.

I made some progress on my problem. I found the circuit breaker for the antenna up warning system and disconnected the wire and the beeping stopped. I found that with my finger tip between the wire end and the circuit breaker stud it would leak enough current to start the beeping again. So it takes very little power to energize the beeper. I went to the roof and cleaned the wire contacts on the magnetic switch. I metered out the switch and it was OK. With the wires off of the switch no beeping. I reconnected the switch wires and the beeping returned. My meter on its most sensitive scale showed the switch is OK, but it must leak enough current like my dry finger tip to start the beeper. I ordered a new switch and we will see what happens. Mark

Many times the switch on the roof will get water in it-- enough to mess up the circuits.

The are regular home security system magnets.  Replace them-- CHEAP.

My HWH leveling system has produced a dash light warning and beeper warning for two years (and no green travel).  A month ago I finally found the wire that jumped from the annunciator warning light to the beeper in a bundle of wires as big as my wrist.  The twisting and working of this to isolate that wire resulted in it being jerked from a connector.  Beeper is now silent for level warning.  And I capped the wire end.

I have preformed the prescribed trouble shooting for the HWH leveling system up to the "replace the control box."  I emailed HWH weeks ago about this and have no replay yet.  As the system works properly, other than giving a supposed false warning, I am reluctant to replace the box.  Don't suppose there are any magnetic strips to replace in the leveling system....  (I am hoping/thinkng that a bad signal from the level sensor--under the kitchen drawers--is my problem.  This is only a guess, and probably a wrong one as the red/yellow indicators on the HWH panel all make sense and report properly compared to the two "analog" bubble indicators installed on the light switch panel left of the driver's seat.)

(Perhaps this note should be in the leveling system instead of the beeper, or both.  But I don't know how to do that.)
