Inland Truck Parts Company, Fargo, ND, for Allison Problem
Yesterday, while driving near Minneapolis, MN, the transmission started shifting differently than normal. Today, I had to turn on "Mode" to get it to shift to 6th. It would run 70 mph in 5th, but would not shift to 6th until I chose "Mode." When Marilyn started driving, I was giving instructions to use "Mode" and she pointed out that the shift panel showed "Service." D'oh! It's good that she is here to help me!
I checked fluid levels, checked for any dragging brakes, flats, wheels fell off the towed, etc. All was OK. I called Inland Truck Parts in Fargo, ND, and was connected to the Allison expert. He estimated my ETA and said he would be ready for me.
Indeed Jason was ready and greeted me as soon as we arrived. He pulled codes and started looking for the problem. The code indicated "throttle position sensor failed low." That is often an electrical problem such as dirty connector, loose connector, frayed wire, etc. He found a bolt on the TPS that had sheared from fatigue. He replaced the bolt, we checked things out, and we went on our way. The charge was very reasonable. I was pleased with the experience we had at the shop.
