Inland Truck Parts Company, Fargo, ND, for Allison Problem

Yesterday, while driving near Minneapolis, MN, the transmission started shifting differently than normal. Today, I had to turn on "Mode" to get it to shift to 6th. It would run 70 mph in 5th, but would not shift to 6th until I chose "Mode." When Marilyn started driving, I was giving instructions to use "Mode" and she pointed out that the shift panel showed "Service." D'oh! It's good that she is here to help me!

I checked fluid levels, checked for any dragging brakes, flats, wheels fell off the towed, etc. All was OK. I called Inland Truck Parts in Fargo, ND, and was connected to the Allison expert. He estimated my ETA and said he would be ready for me.

Indeed Jason was ready and greeted me as soon as we arrived. He pulled codes and started looking for the problem. The code indicated "throttle position sensor failed low." That is often an electrical problem such as dirty connector, loose connector, frayed wire, etc. He found a bolt on the TPS that had sheared from fatigue. He replaced the bolt, we checked things out, and we went on our way. The charge was very reasonable. I was pleased with the experience we had at the shop.

Dave - thanks for that feedback here.  Be sure to submit something to rvservicereviews.com

We have used Inland Truck Parts in Denton, TX and been pleased.  We have used them for fluid service in the past; they did our initial resonator installation and have a tech that is Allison-certified as well.

JD,  glad you got things fixed timely and reasonable.  I use Inland Truck here in Sioux City for my FT and have had the same good experience.  The trucking firm that handles our company's transport business recommended them for service when I bought my coach.

Travel safe.

The joystick is truly just a plug and play installation that involves pulling apart an Allison wiring harness under the dash and installing a different jumper harness attached to the joystick.  Just pick an unused blank switchplate next to the drivers seat and pop the joystick into it.  It really is that simple.  There can be more advanced installations if you would like them but I prefer the simplest ones.

This company knew exactly what I was talking about as soon as I mentioned the joystick and knew about the different options (such as activating the brake lights when retarder is working) available. I found them very helpful.

Do check with him. He asked me about the "lever with Allison on it" near the transmission keypad. I expect he has not installed a joystick, but I am confident he would find out how to do it and do a good job. He asked me questions and answered my questions as he worked on our coach. Marilyn and I both liked the way he worked.
