Window and Door Awnings

Our new to us 2009 Nimbus does not have window or door awnings.  Pros and cons of Zip Dee manual or Girard electric? Recommendations for installation in the Michigan, Indiana area or should I plan a trip to FOT or MOT?

Girard simple to use, nice looking, pricey. Retracks automatically in wind , that can annoy.

I would work in a NAC trip and have James at Ctreme do it

The Zip Dee Factory is in Elk Grove, Il.  A Chicago suburb.  Nice folks to work with.  I would probably replace our automatic with manual when the time comes and if I were in the Chgo area.

So there is something about the automatic awnings that you do not like?

Girard cons are cost and auto retraction in a relatively low breeze leaving you w/o awning

Pro is automatic operation

We have small manual Zip-Dee awnings over most of the windows. They deploy and store quickly. You simply use an awning hook to grab a loop on the strap and either pull the strap to open, or control the strap to close the awning.

They are great to help keep the coach from heating from sunlight. They will also allow windows to stay open during during, if the wind is not blowing too hard.

We seldom use the "big" awning.

Love the awnings over the windows.  Have to be careful with the wind as you mentioned.  We have re-seated a number of screws holding the strap hooks in place.

Re: Auto awning -  would go manual next time so there is one less electrical thing to go wrong.  The question is not "if" - the question is "when".  It is nice to push the button and have it open like magic though.  ;D

Tim, you can adjust the wind speed.  Mine was requiring a small hurricane to go through before the awning would retract.  I called Girard they walked me through the adjustment.  On my coach 03 U320 the control box is located behind a panel over the dash passenger side.  It was nothing more than adjusting small screw.  David
