Lost Auto Leveling while Parked

In Jasper NP we dry camped at the Columbia Ice Fields parking lot.  It was pretty slope'y.  When I went to level it did nothing.  Leveling manually worked fine.  However, by morning we were all the way down on the forward right side.  At the next two campgrounds the same situation.  All the manual controls work fine (raise, lower, manual leveling).  And then a few hours later down (all the way) on the forward right hand side.

Thus apparently two problems. 

    • HWH system not working.  No doubt related to the sometimes violent bumps and jostling we got on Hwy 93 in Jasper NP.  Will reseat the HWH boards and do a visual check.
    • An air leak in the forward right corner.  I assume that this was a pre existing problem that was compensated for by the auto leveling system.  Lately it has been doing more re-leveling while parked.  Not sure how much I'll try to troubleshoot and work on it while traveling.  On reading other posts it would probably be worthwhile to (or have done) rebuild all the solenoids for starters.

Any suggestions?

The good news is that I'm parked right next to Jack Bradshaw (the Motorcade Service Dude extraordinaire) so I can initiate a service request if I need help.

No need to rebuild all the solenoids, find and fix the one leaking and see how it behaves after that.
I would be sure to talk to Jack about this problem and Foretravel talk in general.

Harvey, just had the exact same problem, caused by hitting something in the road the really jolted the coach.. Hit it hard enough the electric plug pulled out of the surge protector for the front TV. That was a fun fix...Foretravel sure did it right when they put in our new 46" tv.. took a long time to get everything taken down.

Now, to your problem.  I spend hours looking.  Problem was the connectors for the leveling system needed to be cleaned.  Easy to take complete box out and clean all the connectors... Have only set leveling system half a dozen times since, but seems that was the problem... I also had a major air leak, but that was not the problem.

Thanks Jeff,  Great idea.  I'm going to add a note to myself to do that.

Update:  Before I even got around to doing my checking Jack came over.  Guess what?  Now it works :o

I hate that when it happens.  When the expert shows up it won't act up.

Well, we'll just wait.  Maybe it was a temporary fluke.

I'll wait for a better situation to address the air leak issue.

Hello Harvey. If you do decide to check on leaks, invest in the bubble solution sold at Toys R Us or Walmart for kids to blow bubbles. Even the slightest leak will show up.

Twig:  I got it, actually two kinds, now what?  Do I put it in a spray bottle and squirt it on the fittings.  It seems rather thick for that.  Maybe dilute it, or brush it on?  I'm sure I would figure it out but your advice would save me futzing around.

I use it in a spray bottle to check fittings and air bags .
Put some in a jar lid to hold up against the bottom of the ride height controll valve to see it it is venting air.
Also to check for a leaking travel solenoid I take the line from the travel solenoid off the ride height controll valve and submerge the end in a jar lid of bubble solution to check for a leaking travel solenoid .
I use two Q tips to glop solution on the dump valve vent hole by the dump valve on the HWH manifold to check for a leaking dump solenoid.
Use it anyway you need to to check for an air leak.
Bet you find some!
