Highway 89 to Prescott, Az.

I'm planning a trip to the National Rodeo in Prescott AZ. during the Fourth of July. I'll be coming from Palm Desert, and was wondering if anyone has traveled from I-10 west, then North to Hwy. 89 into Prescott?  Google map shows a very steep and a whole lot of curves on 89. Probably best to take I-17 north out of Phoenix. My coach is 40ft. and I'm towing a Tahoe.  Any  thoughts would be appreciated.

If 89 is anything like 89A (South from Flagstaff to Sedona) I would suggest staying on the interstate.  With the retarder the hills are not the problem, it's the narrow roads and the other people wanting to take their half out of the middle because they are afraid of being too close to the edge. I would suggest going to Google Maps and checking out the area in "StreetView" you can just about drive the whole thing on the computer. Just zoom in on an area, double click and a window should appear with the "StreetView".

I white knuckled it down 89A but never got a chance to enjoy the scenery because you have to pay so much attention to the road and cars. It wasn't worth it IMHO.

That Highway will take you through Jerome and you will not have much luck. The streets are sharp to the tune of 90 degree . Not a good Idea. Just my thoughts. oops was coming from the wrong way I was thinking coming from the North.

We live in Congress, AZ at the North Ranch RV Park and we go that way all the time. There is a go around...Just north of Yarnell is a junction that takes you over to Kirkland Jct and Skull Valley. I have taken 40" Motorhome pulling the Silverado over that way many times with no problem. Good road and not many curves. It takes you right down into Prescott. No need to go way over to I-17...
