Tree Damage Repair

I was wondering what any of you thought of this.  Hit a bin on the part of a tree that starts expanding near the ground at a tight campground.  The damage isn't crazy but I imagine you'd have to fill the area with something, then put in some kind of gelcoat and then match the paint.  The paint is a FOT full body paint job and there are metal flakes in there.  The extra paint that came with the coach isn't very much and it's almost toothpaste consistency, maybe dried out...

I might pass by NAC this year so I might schedule something with them.  But I was wondering if anyone had DIY suggestions.

For what it's worth be careful of this.  It is a huge blind spot I never considered before.  I haven't damaged any motorhomes in thousands of driving miles.  I felt horrible when I found this.  Didn't even hear it happen.

Ouch! I hate those!

Biscuit gave me touch up paint after our full body paint and told me that if any ever dried out he would send me a new bottle. That said your damage looks too large to handle with touch up paint.

I would wait till you are in Nac and have Biscuit fix you up. He has always done us right. It's never cheap but no one will ever know you had any damage. :)

I seem to have issues with telephone poles not trees. :)

Been there, done that, welcome to "the club". Your signature does not give your location and I did not recognize the city on your location map. I have done business with Xtreme and with the body shop at FOT, both wonderful. In addition, if you are in the south or eastern USA, Tennessee RV (still a Foretravel dealer) has a great body shop run by a fellow named Allen Stanifer, This may be more convenient.

Hi all.....

On our first trip after the purchase of our 2003 U320, we had a confrontation with a large rock at Minuteman Campground near Boston. A neighboring camper had parked a pick up truck blocking clear passage from our campsite. Several knocks on the door produced no results. So, after careful consideration, I said "I think I can make it." Wrong decision. After missing all the trees, the rv stopped. Us 0, rock 1. A little more power and still not moving........so from now on, "I think I can make it," means we can't. So we don't!!!

We had the damage repaired at a local truck body shop near home. Doesn't look like new, so next time in Texas................

One of the compartments would not open and both required fiberglass repair. Here are some pictures:

Had a similar accident myself due to my own doing. I sanded the area, filled it with body filler, found some paint at of all places, Oreilys auto parts, clear coated it, good as new. Ready for the next stupid accident.

There's a big cedar stump on a tight corner of our driveway that wants to modify the coachwork in that exact location. I've clearanced tgat stump with a chainsaw but it is still necessary to go really slow and careful past the goldern thing...

Get shed of the stump 2 bus... that bad boy's gonna bite ya one day when you are thinking of something else... I know of no one that drives these size rigs and bigger that doesn't end up with a bruise... I have 3 1/2 million miles of driving large vehicles and while I never had a chargeable mishap of which I am proud... I have certainly had some skint spots... If you get out of the yard often... it is going to happen.... Hate it when that happens.

Never feel like you are the only one!  My failure was a large rock in a sharp turn.  Local truck repair facility that does fiberglass repair work did a great job.  Reasonable cost and only bruised confidence.  If you are in the central TX area will provide the guy who repaired my bruises.

We're in Hatfield, PA which is Northwest of Philadelphia but we are planning to travel to California via a southern path and hitting Nac on the way doesn't seem out of the question.  There are a few other things I could ask them for advice about like plastic welding the fresh water tank.
