Newbie Question

This is my first post as a forum member.  We brought home our (used) 1995 U295 yesterday, which we purchased from a forum member.  I have two questions for which the owner's manual doesn't seem too helpful.

First is mirror adjustment.  Page 4.1 of the coach manual says turning the two knobs will adjust them.  Nothing seems to happen. Yes, I had the ignition switch on.  The manual suggested the adjustment was sideways.  Is there any up & down adjustment?

Secondly, after driving close to 2 hours, the water temp light illuminated.  The engine (300 Cummins) temperature gauge varied between 180 and 200 degrees.  Since neither the Cummins engine, or the generator engine, appeared to be overheating, I made the decision to keep going.  We arrived home with no apparent problems, but dash bar light was still red.  Have any of you encountered this issue?  I made the assumption that the light was faulty and gave the analog gauge reading precedence over the warning light.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Larry

Welcome to the forum.

On my 98, U295, each mirror, top and bottom can be adjusted, up, down, in and out.  There is a "joy stick" for each side of the coach.  I think I twist the joy stick, from the top to the bottom mirror setting with a right or left twist first, then the stick controls all the action.

And we are all going to be interested in where you took that coach, like your home base.  You can add info onto your profile page, and build a signature with your coach, model, year, and location.  Someone might be very close by to help you with the new coach.

The temp guage in my 1999 U-270 was erratic and wrong to the high side. On 2000 U-320 it was right on. Went to vmspc on 270. Not sure an option for you.

What engine do you have . Overheat leads to expensive repairs , make sure engine is not overheating,

Check for loose connection on guage and ground bar

Welcome, Larry, and congratulations on your purchase! Check the members map link at the top of the page to find someone near you. My coach may be different, but we have two knobs to control the two mirrors. They don't turn, but move left/right or up/down to adjust the mirror. Is that the setup you have?

FWIW,
I feel that you need to make certain that the engine is not overheating.  That is one way to kill a diesel.  Try to figure out the temp guage issue and make sure it is reading correctly.  My impression is that there are only a couple of things that one needs to do with these diesel engines.  One is not over heating, and changing of the oil on a regular basis.  Congrats on your 295.  I sure like mine and it is (I think) almost identical to mine.

C S hits it on the head about overheating. Get to the bottom of of the idiot light coming on before another trip. Like said above, change the oil and keep it cool and it will outlast you.

High on the fault list are bad ground, a loose connection or bad sensor. Your diagnostic port should have the correct information.

It really depends on where you live and where you went regarding the temp light and coolant temp.  If you're in the Colorado Rockies, it is probably pretty normal to have 100F along with elevation which could very easily keep your engine working very hard and coolant temp as high as 220 were fairly common, just have to slow down a bit if that is where you are.

Its a different story if you've been at sea level.

Thanks for all postings welcoming me to the forum.

The mirror controls consist of two thimble-sized knobs that rotate roughly 1/8th turn in each direction.  The cannot be moved laterally or forward and back.  I'll email the seller tomorrow and see if he remembers.

The unit we purchased is listed in these classifieds - currently the second from the top.  Hoagy sold it to us, and we want to send a heartfelt thank you to him and his wife for their graciousness to us while handling the transaction.  They are both the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.  The only regret my wife and I have is that we had separate them from their beloved coach.
