97 U320 Haldex pure air plus

Good Afternoon,

Thank You for a informative and wonderful forum .  I want to replace the Haldex Pure Air Plus dryer as a complete unit. Can anyone confirm the Haldex part number N50011F as the correct number? I know my unit has  a 12 volt heater.  The unit on the coach is very rusty and the information on the tag is no longer readable. Thank You Mike

The 'new' whole Haldex dryer that several have replaced, is a factory REBUILT unit. It looks like new and the assumption is that all parts are replaced and it comes with both filters.

I don't know if the Foretravel $600 is new or factory rebuilt. So if new, you may be comparing apples to oranges.

Rebuild mine every 3 years, it's not a real complicated deal. Filter kit is a DQ 6026, lower kit is DQ6020 if my memory serves me. It's more trouble getting it out to work on it.

On line I was able to find a brand new  unit for $328 including shipping.  I don't remember where but when I was looking for it I just googled until I found what I wanted.

Having been left on the shoulder of I-40 some years back, by a failed Haldex bladder, I'm a big proponent of at least semi-annual air-drier maintenance. At minimum filter and media. (And carrying a plumb-around kit.) I do a rebuild every other service; as stated earlier, it's really not that difficult...

I understand but how should I call this guy out (not happening btw)?

Rebuilt or new, after going to the trouble of getting the parts and rebuilding my old unit, this seems like a decent option in lieu of my effort and expense.

Too bad there isn't a zipper on the thing.  pc

Dick,

DA33100X is the one we got last year.  You will either need to reuse the fittings that connect to the air lines or buy new fittings.  You get the core charge back when you return the old unit.  I asked and our NAPA had no time limit, they just asked that I use the box the refurb came in to make it easier for them to pack up.

Actually, on air dryers I view it as THREE options:

New
Factory (i.e. the factory that makes them) reman
Bubba reman or reman with overseas parts.

Either of the first two are fine with me.  Last one is NOT.

Does your coach have a Holset compressor and does it use an isolation valve? Looking at the eBay pictures, it looks like you need to improvise a mount to fit the triangular bolt pattern. I wonder how the ports will line up with your air lines and if you have an isolation valve, you should be able to just move it along with its fittings to the input on the new one. I may get one, but unsure about having it shipped to Canada... let us know how it goes if you put it on.

Have not crawled under the coach yet ever.  So far no need to know why and how.  Coming up although.    Left a message for my x Foretravel mechanic buddy who can do this in his sleep.  I will watch.  If he lets me.  Haha.

That is correct. I just purchased mine from Ryder Fleet Products for $260.00 plus $80.00 core.
I installed it 2 days ago. Could not believe how easy it was to replace.
I soaked the fittings in vinegar and they looked like new and I reused them.
After looking inside the old one with the inspection camera I could see the same stuck on powder I saw in the wet tank.
Definitely needed to be replaced.

I have been trying to clean the old wet tank inside but not having much luck loosening the stuck on powder.
If I can get it clean I can use it on the front and then clean that one since they are all the same tank.
I tried putting small rocks inside but could not break it up much.
Any ideas what kind of solvent might work on this to loosen it up?

Cryogenic Tempering Services, Cryo Treatment Services by 300 Below, Inc. has a product called PRISTINE.

This is the cleaning mixture (water base) portion of a gun cleaning kit.
If you are a shooter, buy the kit.

It works great for brass and I'd bet it will clean anything else too.  pc

Yes, we purchased factory rebuilt air dryer from NAPA. Isolation valve is external to dryer, square looking and did not come with our dryer. We did not know what that part was, so we just put it back on with hoses.
