Odometer issue (maybe water issue)

Observations
1) A couple of weeks ago we returned in the coach from a 200 mile trip, much of it in the rain.
For about the last 45 minutes the annunciator started beeping at a volume that my wife could hear but I couldn't. No idiot lights or 'interesting' instrument readings.
I assumed when things dried out all would be well.
That seemed to be the case when we started off this morning.

2)  About half of todays drive was in the rain.
Toward the end the odometer lcd display started displaying nonsense characters. At present they display what look close to numbers but not the correct ones. (I'll investigate more later but turning on the ignition resets the TV and I get hassled for now)

What next?

I suspect that the suggested remedies will include re-seating connections.
The biggest question is 'Which ones?'

I'll be happy to entertain other suggested solutions.

My annunciator has it's own funny game.  It chimes as if something really was happening, but only for a couple of minutes, and only on this one exact same patch of road going the same direction.  Nothing on the dash indicates anything amiss.  The best I can fathom at this time is it's either the antenna up sensor or connection issue behind the dash.  I pretty much ignore it.

As for the LCD, nonsense characters are usually a connection issue within the actual display unit, right at the LCD itself.  I have had no luck with these failures (on other devices), and suspect it will come down to replacing the LCD assembly.

How can you ignore that annunciator? Or did you find a way to change the frequency? On mine, it a very LOUD annoying sound. Unfortunately, it is also used for the turn signals.
 
Any one find a way to tame that beast?

I can ignore mine because it only lasts for a few minutes.  When I had to limp home from a trip a few years ago with the annunciator continuously sounding, I simply unplugged it.

If yours is one of the adjustable ones, you can turn the top to close the holes and make it quieter.  Otherwise you can tape the holes to reduce the volume.

LCD displays in the Tach/speedo seem to fail over time. I replaced both, and I disconnected the wire that make full 12v go to the lights on the tach/speedo when the ignition is on. The light bulbs were hot...which probably isn't good for the life of the tach/speedo. Now they just come on with the headlights with the rest of the panel.

There's a relay in the doghouse just for the tach/speedo lights. I removed the pin wire #249 (ignition power) from the relay and just taped it off.

I looked harder today as we drove toward Texas.
The LCD displayed "E3" followed by approximately what I had calculated  as the last 4 digits of the correct mileage.

I decided to test the hypothesis that it was displaying an error code.
If that were so, there must be a reset mechanism.
If that were so, maybe the black button at the bottom of the dial would do  it.

I pressed the button and Miracle of Miracles the odometer reset to the correct reading!! :dance: 

Now to track down VDO Speedometer error codes.
