Hydraulic Fan Motor

Hi all,

Has anyone considered engineering a solution for a replacement non-foretravel specified fan motor.  Something like this?

Concentric Hydraulic Birotational Gear Motor — 4,000 PSI, 3,600 Max. RPMs,

I would think even have a custom engineered fan solution would be cheaper than the Foretravel supplied custom pumps?  Not that I need this, but just trying to think ahead.

Adding to this question: one of my fan motors is leaking (weeping). Is it possible to replace seals in them?

I recently replaced the seals in the Cassapa brand hydraulic pump/fan motor in my 1997 American Eagle on a Spartan Mountain Master chassis / Cummins c8.3 engine.  The seals were physically tiny and very thin.  Would highly recommend photographing existing seals in the pump prior to removing them.  Would also recommend marking the hose fittings with a sharpie marker prior to removing the hoses from the pump so you won't waste time trying to get them back in the correct (swivel) position when you re-install it.  Seal kit was about $50 vs. about $450 for a new pump.

My 95 u-240 fan motors must be bad.  I have replaced the pump, and the sun cartriage.  I now know the reason I cannot get my orig. motors thru FOT, is because womack machine would not supply less than 25 units, FOT was only selling about 6.  The upgrade kit from FOT only contains 2 new motors, 6 adapter fittings, 2 new fan hubs, 2 mounting plates.  I am waiting on the stuff for my upgrade kit to come in from vendors.  I think it will be about 15-Oct-2014. 10+ hrs labor to upgrade, I am going to do the labor.

I went through the same experience last fall with FOT. The original fan motor for my C8.3 mechanical was not available because FOT wouldn't buy 25. Their replacement fan motor was made in Italy, required an entirely different bracket than the one FOT provided with the new fan motor. I had to take the bracket, motor and my dimensions to a local welder to have him extend the bracket. Finally got it to work. FOT wasn't aware that their bracket wouldn't fit in my U-280 with the Cummins 8.3.

Might take numbers off of the motor to sun source or hydraulic supply. I have found many exact replacement motors thru them. Resealing an old aluminium housing motors can be iffy. The metal
Gears usually grove the seats. Lowe hours maybe. Very intriquit process.
