Vehicle History Report

Any recommendations? Carfax vs DMV.org or someone else?

Thanks,

When we were searching for our coach, I tried a CarFax subscription.  I found the search results were somewhat random - that is, pretty good in some cases and pretty worthless in others.  Don't expect it to work like it does with cars.  You may get some useful information about how many owners and where the unit was registered, but there might also be big gaps in the history.  Unlike cars, motorhomes don't necessarily reside in the same place they are registered.  A coach registered in South Dakota may have spent its whole lifetime parked 10 feet from the ocean on a beach in Florida.  Also, it seems the "rules" that require shops to report damage repair and reconstruction are rather loosely enforced in the case of RVs.  Don't assume a RV has a clean "record" just because nothing scary shows up on Carfax.  It is ALWAY best to find a RV with a complete ownership/service history and paper receipts for major maintenance work.

Beware of Vehiclehistory.com - Your Vehicle History Site I used them last year, they advertise a 1st report for $1 then the credit card was charged $14.95 and billed $14.95 again the next month...I called and squawked & they said it was a monthly subscription (!!!) written in the fine print, I squawked even louder & they finally refunded my $ the next month.  Grrrr.  >:D

Might be a waste of money to run the VIN. This is the second owner and he seems to be an okay guy and sounds as if he is very meticulous with his vehicles. Will meet with him next month to do the PDI, do an oil inspection and look at the maintenance records. From talking with him, the only item needing attention is the dash A/C and he agreed to have it working by the time I show up. Past year new tires, batteries, engine, transmission and so on were serviced. Going in with my eyes open and ready to walk if it doesn't measure up. Plus, my wife will be with me and she usually keeps me out of trouble.
