The family calls it the "MOTORHOME".
When I work on it and suffer the expected bruises, scrapes, cuts, burns, abrasions, muscle aches, emotional distress, and the wallet hemorrhage, I personally address it as "DA Bitch"

As we thought about a name for the coach several things came to mind:
◦ The entrance door has a picture of two loons etched in the glass window.
◦ We have to be just a little 'loonie' to start on this new adventure
◦ The two of us are together in the spirit of excitement this new phase generates

There is a Canadian one dollar coin called the 'Loonie'

and a two dollar coin called the 'Toonie' (Two Loonies)

We considered naming the coach 'Loonie' after the coin with the picture of the loon but since there are two on us (and we didn't want to offend the coach) we decided the name of the two dollar coin, the 'Toonie' fit better.  (Implying multiple crazy people I guess.....)

Well, I found this on craigslist,I was just looking.I search craigslist for all kinds of stuff and am real good and patient until I see a real deal ,then i'll make an offer on it. I have wanted a RV for some time and nothing I saw was either in my price range, way too old,or needed way too much work. RV's pretty much have no investment value with their depreciation  rate. I was just looking and ran across this They were asking 14,000 obo . I saw it and said to myself, Thats a cool looking old motorhome, but passed it on by and kept looking through classifieds. It was on the upper end of what I wanted to pay for a camper and I was looking for a real deal,Cheap. I kind of forgot about it for a few days. I would scroll on craigslist and I kept going back to the pictures of this one,I don't know why, But this went on for about a month.I finally called and said I was interested to see it if possible. I didn't really have 14,000 to spend at the time on one but for some reason I just wanted to check it out. I started researching them and found ya'll here. Thats when I started really learning and discovering about foretravels. The seller ,the deceased owners son in law was selling it.Thhey live in Mass. He said it had been sitting a couple years in the storage lot where it was parked just N of Knoxville Tn. I truck right by the place weekly and made set a time to meet the previous owners best friend. Anyway I met him and he told me about his friend and I looked over this thing, Man it was ROUGH Black soot oozing down it from diesel exhaust residue from the hiway. This thing would make most people turn and Run. But me, being a man of means by no means, saw underneath all the crud. and there was just something that made me want it.I left saying I would think about it and left. The owners friend told me some about him, that he was a Vietnam vet, He had,had some mental issues etc as a lot did. I understood that as my dad had had issues like that as I was growing up from his WW2 and Korean war time.He had died suddenly from a heart attack. He wasn't old I think in early 60's. Anyway I thought about it and made them a 7300.00 offer, They said they would consider it. a few days passed and they called and said they had a tentative 10,000 offer. I said well good luck. But if that fell through I'fd raise mine to 8000. A few weeks passed by and I drove my semi by the place everyweek and kept thinking about this motorhome. As I drove by I would talk to myself and the deceased owner,You know I am they right guy for this project,we just need to meet in the middle on price, and keep driving. I kept looking at the pictures of
it and reading here and made the call I said You have a a tentative 10,000 offer next month, I am at 8000. meet me in the middle at 9000. cash, He said he'd take it. Whenever I saw this thing for some strange reason I would say the owners name and I just started calling it ''Nelson"". His friend called me after I bought it and asked if everything went well with the deal and I told him Yes and that I had named the coach ''Nelson'' after his friend. He said that made him very happy!! I got a call from the son in law and he said he had gotten a call and was happy I named the coach after his father in law and he had told Nelson's wife I had named it and she cried tears of joy. That made me happy too. I don't know why and pretty much believe things happen for a reason, and this was meant to happen. So now Myself my wife Betsey will be real comfy at bike week and other events we have ridden too in the past and tent camped!! Betsey said I need o quit calling it the camper!  She said it's a RV, I said No it's a camper!!!We're gonna have a blast in this thing!!Thats how it came to be named ''Nelson""

Stump,

That is a good story...thanks for sharing.  Sometimes it seems like things really do happen for a reason, and it's not all just random.

Don't forget to update your "signature" with some details about Nelson.  It really helps others answer your questions if they know what you're driving.
