Dometic now owns Atwood

October 31, 2014
Dometic Group today announced that the acquisition of Atwood Mobile Products has received clearance from U.S. anti-trust authorities, and the transaction has been completed. Still pending is the completion of Dometic's acquisition of Atwood's Australian business, which is subject to an Australian regulator's review, the Outdoor Wire reported.

Atwood Mobile Products is a global provider in designing, engineering and manufacturing appliances and hardware for the RV, on- and off-highway and marine industries for over 50 years. Thus, Dometic's acquisition of Atwood complements and further diversifies Dometic's existing product offerings and strengthens the company's global footprint.

Dometic Group's global revenue, on a rolling 12 months after the acquisition, will amount to approximately $1.4 billion and the number of employees will increase to over 7,000.

Big fish eating littler fish... If memory serves, Atwood previously bought fantastic fan. So now Dometic owns Atwood and therefore owns fantastic fan?

And all the profits go back to Sweden. I did see that they are no longer going to make any fridges in their home country but will add 350 new employees to their new factory in Elkhart, Indiana. Their other factory in Mexico burned a little while ago. Probably ammonia related. ;)

Elkhart has been known as the "RV Capitol of the World" as well as the "Band Instrument Capitol of the World" for decades with 40% of the world's brass instruments coming from this small town back in the 1970's. Unfortunately, I think outsourcing has taken a toll on the music industry there lately.

Thanks, Pierce. I knew that Elkhart meant something to me besides RV stuff, but I had forgotten what - and I used to be a music teacher!

Maybe a big push towards helium refrigerators in the future?
