I don't know if this is worth restating, but it's been a whole year and there are probably new readers since then. All size 8D batteries are "deep cycle" no matter what the sticker says, so don't bother paying extra, at least not for ordinary lead acid wet cell batteries. The short version of the story is that the main factor in construction of "deep cycle" batteries is the thickness of the lead plates. Size 8D batteries are designed for big rig trucks so they always have thick plates, thicker in fact than deep cycle batteries in other sizes... If anyone wants to read the long version it's in a discussion from a year ago which was about battery desulfators. I can look it up if you really wanna read it... So in review, if you're buying ordinary lead acid 8D batteries just get the cheapest batteries, which are the "cranking" batteries of course, because they're actually better "deep cycle" batteries than any other lead acid batteries in any size, even batteries labeled "deep cycle"... You just cut your battery cost in half! :)
