noisy Primus boiler

For those few that have Primus heat, does anyone have a noisy boiler? When both of my boilers are on, one of them makes a loud howling sound and when only one boiler is called for then its very quiet. If you have this problem where you able to correct it?

You might try replacing the gas regulator. Its right next to the right boiler in front of the circulating pump. I bought mine on line for about $15. Its adjustable from 0-10#. The boiler needs about 7#. If the pressure is too high you will get the howling sound. Maybe when BOTH boilers are called for the extra propane that's called for to operate both boilers reduces the pressure slightly to both boilers and stops the boiler howl on the one, Is it the primary boiler that's howling?

Check the Wonderlodge Forum. Lots of good info on the Primus.
There are discussions of owners rebuilding and cleaning there boilers and the silence after the cleaning. DUPREE PRODUCTS sells parts and are very good at giving advice.

We are sort of on our own as Foretravel owners, with this great, but complected heating system.

Thank you for the reply. Its when both boilers are operating that I get the noise. I have gone to the Wonderlodge site. But I think you might be on to something with the regulator. Not expensive easy to change. I love the system.

Lon, went to motor home no regulator by the pump or anywhere near boilers. I think mine is up by Propane Tank. Its red in color by itself.

Normally It would be strange that the regulators would not be in the same location. Very few Foretravels were built with the Primus and all were early manufacture numbers with the introduction of the "new" 95 U320 Unicoach.
I think they felt there way through production and probably didn't make two coaches the same with the Primus.
I will go look at mine and see what regulators are in the propane bay.

Looks like I have the red valve near the propane tank also. There is still the one near the boilers (smaller).
I don't think the one by the main Propane tank is the one you need.

Thanks Lon I'll look again but it won't be for a couple of weeks. Headed towards Wisconsin without the coach. By the way mine is a U320E. The pictures are a big help. Mine might be covered up with insulation.

Hi Lon, finally got to my noisy primus heat. First my regulator was up by the main propane tank. Put a new 7.lb regulator in and no change. I am lucky in that the previous owner gave me lots of Primus parts including a new boiler. I removed the solenoid valve and jet from the noisy boiler and then blue out inside of boiler with compressed air. Installed solenoid and  jet from new boiler and fired it up. Its very quiet with one or both boilers operating. I will continue to test but for now its perfect. Thanks for your help and its good to now someone else with Primus

Glad you got that fixed!
I wish I had a box of extra Primus parts! Dupree's prices seem to go up every time I check for parts.
I have one boiler that won't light, I replaced the solenoid and ignitor, I can hear it click, but it wont light. Maybe bad ground not providing a good spark. I will deal with this in spring. One boiler still does the job in the meantime.

Good morning Lon, I did see on your picture the one boiler not connected. If you google Primus rv boiler a PDF file will come up that is 46 pages long. If you go through, it will suggest cleaning the jet, and cleaning the surface of the ignitor and the electronic control unit. To clean the jet you will have to remove the solenoid valve. I found the PDF file to be of great help  Good luck
