Six pack solenoids repair

I've got one that's failed completely with a bad coil, and the rest, I suspect, leak.  Does anyone have an idea what the sealing material on the plunger that contacts the seat is?  Durometer hardness? 

I'd like to be able to rework all of them. Think I've got the coils sourced.  HWH quotes $180.00 ea for new complete assemblies.

Wow! They went up! Last one I bought about three years ago was $105!

They are expensive but in fairness they seem to be high quality units. All of them are suffering from water intrusion and seat seal failure and look to be rebuildable.  Just need to work out the details and don't want to do it twice.

Chuck, Dick Shanahan is doing his too right now as he e mailed me about them.
He is using Neoprene with 60a Durometer but is having a problem with the cutting of them. Maybe get hold of him and solve both yours and his problem.

I was able to get a replacement plunger from these folks:  Inventories in Stock by Oemsurplus911.com    The plunger # is a Skinner replacement plunger V5-207-N  It has been a while but I had to order a minimum order (don't remember what the minimum is though) and they were about $15 a piece. The big difference was that the seat from on the original were about 0.30 and these are 0.20. The flange is also about 0.70 larger in dia. but there is plenty of room for this extra. We are on the road and don't have all the paperwork that has all the exact measurements with us, but this may be enough to get you on the right track.

We just went over to there web site and it has been updated. I couldn't find a place to put in the part # but if you give them a call they are very helpful.

A few years ago I had a solenoid that was leaking.  The plastic part on the piston had a couple of overlapping ring depressions made by the cone seat. I chucked it in a lathe and removed just enough of the plastic until it was flat.  The plastic was a little rough after this, but it hasn't leaked since.  It's a shame spare parts are not available as the solenoids are easy to take apart.  Guess the market isn't large enough for spare parts.

Wow, lots of good replies and thanks to everyone for your responses.  I ordered a couple of new solenoids from Foretravel yesterday, around 150.00 ea. which will get my coach up and running.  I am going to try some remanufacturing on the old valves and swap them in and gauge long term results. 

As stated, I have the coil assemblies sourced, I think, the O rings are solved thanks to prior efforts of others.  The biggie is the sealing surface on the plunger and I've got a couple of possible options to try.  Refacing or replacing plungers both sound good but I'm looking for a diy style fix that anyone can do.  Will post results.

Quoted at 180.00 ea., and a ton of 'tude for no good reason.  Enough to convince me its worthwhile to come up with a fix.  Reading the glowing reports of service at HWH makes me think I got the phone rep who had a bad weekend hangover, brought on by her husband running over her dog while he was leaving for good this time.
