Coach at Mot

There is a coach listed at MOT that looks really nice, but has 187,905 miles on it. What is the opinion of that many miles. I'm not sure if there are previous maintanence records with it. If you were to get a professional inspection and a fluid analysis, would you be satisfied to purchase it providing all goes well. Does anyone know this coach? It's a 2002 40ft U320 white/ teal/ gold.
Thank you

Don't know the coach but with those miles it has been driven, and that is a good thing. I would not be concerned with the mileage as long as the coach has been properly maintained. Fluid analysis will tell you that.

Miles are of no concern to me, sitting idle is.

That is about the time when major engine PM items are recommended. Items such as water pump, turbo, air compressor, etc. Look into the engine manufacturer's PM items and see what the engine mfr recommends and see if they have been addressed on the rig.
Good luck, you'll need it,
Rick

If the coach appears to have been well maintained, then I wouldn't be concerned at all about it. We bought ours just over two years ago with about 160,000 miles on it and have had no mechanical issues with it.

Note: The engine probably has only about 700,000 or so miles left on it. I personally wouldn't be concerned about wearing it out (!), but I don't know how much you might plan on using it!  :)

Miles do not matter to me, more maintenance records is far better. Brett Wolfe is your guy for inspection if available.

I am at 168K on my coach now. It does not bother me at all.  I would look for a coach that is run rather then one that is not as long as they have done the maintenance on it that is.  I would not have any issues with it and I think this is going to become a bigger issue with our coaches as they are getting older as group and FT owners seem to drive more on the whole.

Having now watched the video, noting the exterior colors and the prominent and slightly different FMCA goose-eggs, I suspect it might have been the Pooles' (Connie being a former President).

It looks like you are right. Corbett had a small air compressor put in the first bay right there to get the proper PSI for his awning that uses air to deploy and retract. I have met them at FOT and spent time with them as well as prior to their moving, they were in our chapter as well.  I think that they took pretty good care of their coach as well.

What a beautiful coach....and such nice folks, met them last year at Perry....they previously had a coach very similar to mine, guessed right off the bat what year mine was, (so of course I had to give 'em a mini tour!) I'm sure this coach was very well cared for.

A question that I have for you is if you couldn't have access to the maintenance records for a coach like this would you buy on a inspection alone?
Thanks

Yes I would but then again I did do just that twice.  I did inspect them though.

It depends on what Brett Wolfe would find on his inspection and what fluid analysis showed.

Good question about maintenance records, so I e-mailed the Pools.  Below is the reply:

To: Brett Wolfe

We have complete records of all work done on our coach.  Most of the work was done by Foretravel.  There are two, three ring binders of work orders and receipts pretty much in chronological order.  These also include all work done by HWH and ZipDee, plus the tires, shocks and batteries.  We did most of the oil changes so those records are in my trip records that I still have.  There is also a fuel log that has every fuel purchase we made plus every time we added Howes Fuel Additive and notation of hours on the generator and use of Aqua hot.

We have no problem with you commenting on our coach.

Thanks for contacting us and Have a great trip to the west coast!

Those records are extremely valuable. When making a purchase I always evaluate the previous owner. In this case it appears that the coach has received excellent care, and the mileage should be of absolutely no concern. It's probably just barely "broken in."

Thank you Brett for the information. It seems like Mr and Mrs Poole kept very good records and receipts. I was able to look at some yesterday.
