quick help needed on 3-cylinder Isuzu gen

Our gen is a 8000 watt, but the engine is also used on 10000 watt generators.

I need to double check that the check valve on our Isuzu 8000 watt generator is facing the correct direction.

Pictures attached.

If you have this engine, please take a look at your check valve and let us know if the arrow faces the left, toward the air cleaner.

Barry,
On ours, the arrow on the check valve faces to the left like your picture.

If I am not mistaken that check valve is a vent for your injection pump case and vents to the valve cover or valve train.

Don & Tys and Adam,

Thanks for your quick replies.  And now I also know what the hoses and valve do.
We started our project to find why our gen radiator overheated in Quartzsite, we have removed fan shroud so later when we run the engine to see where leaks are coming from, we can see the water pump and the radiator.
Every hose, belt & fan blade was replaced last year when we relined the compartment and painted the engine after installing new mounts and isolators.
We found the small diameter oil vent hoses we installed back then were not oil resistant.
Next step is to replace the vent hoses, change oil (looks overheated, but has no water present), fill radiator with water and pressure test cap and radiator, run engine to watch what leaks.
Thank to Barry BeamAlarm and Tony who got us through the Quartzsite gathering for a week by letting us plug our shore cable into their coaches.
Good luck with your generator problem Don.

Barry,
I see the arrow and the word up on the valve.
I guess the arrow indicates the direction of flow but doesn't up mean up not sideways?
Will the valve set ( check ) as well, or at all when mounted sideways?
Just wondering.

I removed the valve from the two connecting hoses and John must be right.  It is indeed a check valve allowing flow in one direction and not the other.
I blew into both ends and low and behold, air is blocked when blowing in the direction of the arrow.  And air flows when blowing into the end that faces the point of the arrow.
So oil is prevented from flowing from injector pump area (bottom right) to valve cover (upper left).
The other hose allows oil to flow both ways, but since both upper left ends are in the valve cover, oil may only flow from governor area (bottom right) to valve cover (upper left).
And the check valve may keep the oil flowing internally from injector pump to governor area.
Go figure . . .

Barry...just chiming in with the  oheat issue..have you checked that the radiator temp is consistent across the entire core..??? I have been in automotive trade for 45 years and have found that oheat issues usually come from major component failures i.e.;clutch fans, head gaskets ,radiators being plugged.

If your radiator is cooler on the bottom, it needs a core cleaning or possible recore

Just my Humble Opinion  :D

Pressure testing showed big radiator leak near bottom.  Took rad out and found that the bottom tube which is also attached to bottom mount has broken at both ends.  Vibration has taken its toll.  Going to radiator shop to see what can be done to improve bottom bracket strength and fix leak.  It seems that the bottom tube can be sealed off and used to strengthen the bottom bracket.

We are planning on fixed mounting the radiator to the bottom deck and cutting the horizontal engine mounted radiator support.  This will separate the engine vibrations from the radiator.  We just have to be careful to keep the radiator in the same alignment as when it was mounted on the engine to keep the engine belt driven fan centered in the shroud round hole.  I have reviewed the two "separation" write-ups on BeamAlarm.com.
Radiator leak has been repaired.

We are also looking for a way to support the bottom of the radiator from under the two tank seams, which is probably the strongest part of the rad.

Now that you have found the leak in the radiator you may want to have repaired and reinforced then put back together as it was, and maybe
it will last another 18 years.  Just a thought.
