STEERING BOX - R&R -LOANER TOOLS

AHHHH, spring is in the air, the temps are creeping toward 50 degrees, the snow is melting.
Its damn near replace your steering box season!
What could be better to shed all that pent up Winter hostility than a Spring trip under the front of your Foretravel to scratch, gouge, bruise, and bleed.
Maybe, make pack with the Devil himself!

I offered last year to lend anybody that wants to take this memorable journey a Sheppard Pitman arm puller and the hex drive bit to remove the Pitman arm (3/4 drive).

For that and the wheel lugs I use a 1/2"drive torgue wrench with a 1/2" lug welded on the end of the handle, a 2' bar attaches to that. I can't remember the calculation but as I recall, it works out to 100# on the scale = 400# torgue. Close enough for wheels and the pitman arm nut ( not much room under the generator to maneuver a long handled torgue wrench . This crude set-up puts me close enough to the 350#  pitman arm nut requirement.
I may check out the small electronic torgue readers that fit on the end of a  3/4" breaker bar. For the few times I would need a torgue wrench that measures in the 300-600# area its not worth spending hundreds of dollars. For critical engine work etc yes.
