HWH travel mode light not going on

I'm posting this for Don as we are traveling down the road...We are setting out for Pomona and everything was normal but the travel light won't go on and leveling is working even when we are driving.  Does anyone know what the implications might be of driving while not in travel mode? Also, any idea how to fix the problem?
Thanks,
Tys

The pressure switch on the rear level manifold is what triggers the travel light and turns off the level light.
If you are level you should not have a problem according to James T some time ago when I had this issue.

Here are a few tidbits from HWH's Leveling System Text Book.
The Travel light is related to the ignition switch position and the leveling system control pad. The Travel light should be On when the ignition switch is On and the leveling system is Off. The Off or Emergency Stop button on the panel should turn the leveling system off. The Travel light only means the leveling system if Off and the air system has started to build pressure. It does NOT mean the coach is at TRAVEL HEIGHT. There is also mention that releasing the park brake will initiate travel mode when ignition is On.
Not sure if this is of any help. It is important to visually make sure that the coach is at travel height.

Thanks for the replies, I did stop the coach and check a couple of times on the way up here. I was also watching the air pressure gauge and could see that it was using air while running on the freeway, and this was without brake application. My theory about that is that the HWH system was supply air to the low side to maintain the pressure in the air springs. Anyway, this issue is at the top of my list! Barry, I am going to change the pressure switch as soon as I can.

When we bought our coach the travel light did not go on, and the leveling light on the dash did not turn off , as a result one of the fuses had gone , however there is a over ride you can push on one off your computer boxes in your bay.

Ones the fuse was replaced all was well again.

That is interesting... On ours, the leveling light will go off when push the off button, but it doesn't turn off automatically when take the parking brake off. I will pull the cover off the HWH control box in the storage bay and see if there is an override switch on it and check the fuses.

Don, am attaching a diagram that identifies the Travel fuse, again from the text book. So don't know if it applies to your model. Just more info I guess...

Don,
What is your air pressure when this happens? Your air pressure switch is tied to this function.

P&M,
This is with the air pressure in both tanks over a 110 psi. Usually, if starting from low psi, the travel mode light comes on after the air reaches around 90psi, IIRC.

I have been reading the HWH repair manual and looking at the troubleshooting steps. One thing (well, many things ::) ) puzzles me... the troubleshooting guide mentions the "master warning light" 7 times, but never says where it is or shows an illustration of it. I am assuming that it is talking about the level system light in the warning light panel, but it certainly would have been easy to add one sentence to the effect "The master warning light is not part of the HWH control panel and is implemented but the chassis manufacturer, but can be typically found in the instrument panel along with the other warning lights that come on when turning on the ignition switch". Anyway, can anyone confirm for me that the "master warning light" is in the dash along with the check engine light etc.?

It may just refer to the low air pressure warning/buzzer. There is a reference to that in the attached.

Don,

On our '97 it is the 2nd light from the left on the dash warning light bar. From left to right ours is Trans. temp, level system, park brake, oil pressure, and the list goes on.  I have been under the impression that this is the light that was considered as the "master warning light" they were referring to.

A bit more on this topic... As yet unresolved. To recap the symptoms: The leveling system works as normal, manual or auto. The only difference now is that the level mode doesn't turn off automatically when you release the parking brake. The travel mode light does not come on at all. The master warning light does not illuminate at all (I have come to believe that the master warning light referred to in the HWH troubleshooting guide is the yellow "level system" light. Normally that would illuminate whenever the key is turned on and stays on until there is enough air pressure (85 psi?) to turn it off, at which time the travel mode light would come on.

Without going into travel mode, the coach behaves in this way: if one end or side is higher, it stays that way and doesn't attempt to go to ride height. I drove the coach from San Diego to the Pomona Fairgrounds after getting on some level ground and eyeballing the height of the the coach floor above each wheel, or roughly 5" of open space above the top of the tire (I stopped a few times along the way to look it over). This worked okay and the coach seemed to pretty much stay where I put it manually. It may have been my imagination, but the coach didn't feel as rock solidly stable as usual but I believe that the ride heigh valves not dynamically adjusting might have had something to do with it. I tried to find an air pressure valve for the travel mode (the one on the bottom of the rear six pack) while I was at Colton Truck Terminal, but there didn't seem to be a local source.

At this point, I no longer think that the air pressure switch is the problem. I took the cover off the HWH control box and pulled all the fuses one by one. I got excited for a moment when I discovered the number 4 fuse (ignition power) was blown. I took my meter and checked the fuse holder spades and found that they both have continuity to ground. A new fuse blows instantly... Somewhere, the wire which feeds this must be shorted to ground, or the HWH control box is shorting the terminals somehow. I doubt the latter, because the rest of the leveling works normally. Open to ideas, but this is what I am thinking. Since it was fine when I parked it, and I was pulling wire and hooking up the solar panels in the general area of those HWH bundles, something may have pulled loose or rubbed against a sharp edge. That is one possibility... another, and I think more likely possibility is that when I was disconnecting the Cummins Inline interface from the diagnostic port under the dash, I may have disturbed the wiring bundle in the dash area and caused the problem there. I had that kick panel pulled loose enough to get the diagnostic connector out and there are lots of bundles of wires in that area. It sounds like need to do some wire tracing, no?

The hwh manual should give you a direction to follow by what you describe. The park brake pressure switch is in the area under the dash, might check that also.

I had a problem with my HWH system last year.  My tag bags would dump when they should fill.  At FT Service Alton couldn't figure it out and recommended buying the last available motherboard.  After spending a lot of debugging time with Randy at HWH tech support, I had to run two new wires from the HWH box to the tag switch at the driver's seat.  Different problem but bottom line-wires can short to ground despite armored bundles.
