New Radiator

After much hesitation I took it to my local diesel shop instead of making the trip to Nach.    I had toyed with doing it myself but decided I have too many other things that need my time.  I hoped it was only in need of new gaskets on the tanks but when they got it apart, the headers were bad so they replaced the core. 

I just picked up the coach and went for about a 30 mile ride.  There are no drips under it so I suppose we are good.  I'd rather have spent this money on diesel but it was nice to park and not have a drip where there shouldn't be one.

Just out of curiosity, what did it cost you?  Was it a copper core?

Just had mine replaced.  New core $4300.  Remove and install approximately $2700.  First one leaked from the get-go, so had to have it redone 3 weeks later (at no cost to me, other than imposition).

I don't suppose you know if the cost of the radiator recore was significantly more for the ISM than it would have been for an ISC, do you? That is a pretty shockingly high price for a radiator, but I have never dealt with one this huge!

I bought a whole new radiator from FT for 4K and if I could have ordered it and waited it would have been 3K from Atlas.
It was 8 to 10 hours labor to remove and replace.

Don't know if the recore price is the same or different but the radiator is the same one I think.  I replaced one on my 99 U270 and now I did one on my 01 U320 in July last summer.  They looked to be the same radiators.

Yes, I thought $4k was a bit steep, but didn't have much choice as I was sitting in the shop with no radiator.

I had called Atlas a few months back and they said they could supply me with a new radiator for a little over $2k (don't remember if it was copper or aluminum, however).  But I'm a long way from Texas and the shipping would be expensive.  Also, risk of damage is high.  So decided to have it done locally thinking the cost would be on par with the Atlas quote.  Boy was I wrong about that.

In looking over my bill, I see that some of the installation charges included replacing some hydraulic hoses that they found were in danger of wearing thru.  So, maybe less than $2700 for the radiator alone.  Shop rate was $120/hour.

YEs atlas had to ship me two radiators as the first one was damaged.
I know I paid 1000 bucks more on mine but they had it in stock and it was in the next day.
