In Nac for work on the coach

We got here last Sunday (10 days ago) and spent a couple days at MOT.  Engine and mechanical service, new water heater, and windshield.

We got to Xtreme this Sunday for work on our slide.  All 4 sides will be repaired to fix delamination.  Tim Fiedler's is just being finished for the same problem.  My brother's was done in Feb.  The side panels were stuck pretty good to the steel but not stuck at all to the foam filler, even though FOT used lots of glue.  Rance is replacing the foam with foam and 3/4" plywood and then hand laying the fiberglas on top.

We're also getting some things done ourselves.  It's rained everyday for the 2 weeks we've been in TX and we've found a couple of window leaks.  We fixed two last weekend and decided to redo the gaskets on all the windows.  I've found that every window has at least one corner where the gasket has shrunk into the curve and breached the seal.  I'd suggest that everyone consider checking at least a window or 2 to see you you have the potential problem.  You may be able to get an idea of the seal condition by gently running a very thin scraper blade or feeler gauge between the frame and the sidewall to see how far the gasket has shrunk.  Ideally, the blade should not go in past the edge of the frame.  If it goes in more than a 1/4" before it hits the gasket, I'd be concerned.

Some windows are easy to get out and some are tougher.  I had to remove all the valences and window shades on each of them.  The other hard part is getting all the old adhesive off before you put on the new gasket.  Takes some time, solvent and scraping.  I figure about 2 hours per window.

I've also sanded and repainted the entry step and will get new non-skid on in a couple of days.

Also plan to get up on the roof next week and caulk every joint.

Step conversion is on the list for sometime in the future.

I can report that the mystery project has not yet started.  Hope to see some progress on it before we leave so we can see how they are going to do it.

So I realize I'm really late with a final report but we've driven 3500 miles since we left Extreme on 30 Jun and the last 2 weeks, we've had to drive to the library just to check email.

Extreme did a great job on the slide out delam repair.  Got us out the door on schedule after working a couple of late nights.  I've included some pictures showing the poor glue bond, the plywood inserts, the room going back in and the mess the sanding causes.  Just expect to do a lot of cleaning after the job is done.

Rance did the top first and then they laid the room down and did the sides and bottom.  I think in the future, they will just lay it down and do the top/bottom/sides all at once.

I was also able to have access to the coach while they worked and got lots of much needed PM done while we were there.  Extreme was really, really accommodating with access to it and Rance while he was working.

Anyone with my vintage coach, will probably face this problem at sometime in the future.

Good catch Dave, it might be the back shop that they kept the hot rod cars in one bay, the only 3 overhead door area I know of.

Tim,
We parked behind your coach this week at Xtreme. The folks here are so tight-lipped, they would not even acknowledge that a coach rested next to us with WI plates: 4 TRAVEL. Mum. Not a word. I tried bribing a few top hands around here to give me a clue about what the Secret Project entails--no luck.

Now, I'm getting ready to get some satellite photos of your coach from space, should you move the thing while I'm here. But, until then, your secret seems to be safe with this crew. Maybe a bigger bribe?!

Got our facelift and we are heading to Bernd's next week for the fuel line replacement. All the best! Paul

Best things come to those who wait.

Perhaps a full length, powered elevating platform to watch those NAS cars driving around in circles.  40' up, giant stabilizers coming out ot the coach's side with the new HWH hydraulic lifts, full running water, micro refrig, ice maker, mini-bar, a turboturd 3000 mounted on a swivel in a discrete peek-over enclosure so as to not miss a thing, a microwave and a weather station.  No wonder Rance got excited. NO! you say.  OK there is always next time.
