U-240 Ride height adjustment

Hi, I just introduced myself in the general forum and now wanted to post a question in the tech area. So, I am adjusting the ride height on our 1993 U-240. I was attempting to remove 4 of the remaining 8 shims in order to bring the coach back into ride height spec. After removing the shims I realized that the existing bolts have rusted and corroded beyond serviceability and need to be replaced. The 2 outer bolts would not be a problem as they can just be pulled out the top. The 2 inside bolts however do not have the clearance to be removed out the top and I realized that the shackle base will have to be rotated in order for the bolt to be replaced. I am not familiar with the TORSILASTIC suspension and am wondering if there are safety  precautions (other than the obvious jacking and blocking of the frame and suspension) in order to replace these bolts. Thank you in advance for the help and thank you again for all the past resource and help in this forum..

All the best, Brian

Remove ONLY one bolt at a time.

As you have discovered, the two outer ones are easy to remove.

Best advice on the two inner ones is to cut the heads off them and put in the new ones from the bottom.  They are grade 8, so it won't be fun.  If you are good with a cutting torch, that is another option. You do not need to buy bolts as long as OE's-- just a little longer than you need for current number of shims.  Said another way, ride height will ONLY decrease, not increase, so you will not need to ADD shims.  Be sure you set ride height to mid-spec when adjusting= 32.5" at all wheel positions and that shim count in front of and behind each wheel is the same.  Shim count at the different wheel positions can be different-- no problem.

Be sure to get the correct grade 8 fine thread bolts and tall boy nuts (more threads than standard nuts).  Torque is 115 lb-ft.

Brett, thank you so much for your reply!! Funny, as I was out looking for bolts, I was thinking about this and wondering if I could run the bolts up from the bottom just as you suggested  :)) .. My only concern was weather or not the nut would fit up top. I will have to order the bolts and nuts as I cannot find them locally so I will be sure and get the tall nuts and of course fine thread for the extra torque. Thank you again for the reply, I have learned so much from you and Barry. I really love our 240 and am looking forward to our trip..  Have a great day and I will talk to you later..
