1997 Shower Water Flow Issue

During our golf outing at Deer Creek this past week our shower water flow using the pump was about half the usual (no water hook up at the state park). Beth soaked the shower head in CLR for about a couple seconds and rinsed right away because she thought the CLR could ruin the brass finish.  This did not seem to do anything to improve the water flow.

Any thoughts?

Hard water can clog up lines, water heaters, showers, etc..  Cincinnati generally has hard water so it is possible you have a blockage coming from the water heater or in a line.  If you have not drained and flushed the water heater for a while, that might be a good thing to do.  After seeing the crud in mine, that is when I got the RV water softener to help prevent the build up I had.  Hope this helps.

You'll need to soak the shower head for several hours to expect any improvement.  The brass is clear-coated, but a shiny head won't be any good if it's plugged.

Peter, is the pressure the same hot or cold..? if one side has higher pressure it is probably the posi-temp unit in the shower valve, just replaced mine with same issue.

Disconnect the other end of the hose at the wall and turn faucet on to see if water flows.

Peter, look for filter screens at either end of the hose.  They collect a lot of small stuff that clogs stuff up.  I clean all of these on all the faucets at least once a year.  Roger

Great suggestion, Roger.  I'll do the easy stuff first and check to see if all is wonderful in the shower.

Not sure I have a posi temp valve.  Mine is the type that pulls out to open and then rotate to set temperature.

Mine was blockage in non return valve located between wall outlet and shower hose

Mine is bit different, rotates cold to hot. however if its a Moen you can get the part# for the temp cartridge from them, its a bugger to replace tho, they are usually seized in the bore. get the right puller for your cartridge and be patient on the extraction.
