Putting water down roof toliet vent

Has anyone put a water hose into this vent pipe by the black tank toliet room.  My vent top turns with the wind but the only odor I had was when the commode is flushed.  I have put dawn and etc into the tank but  sometimes an odor exist.  I am putting new hinges on the seat and lid as the old ones have gotten brittle.  Today no smell.  Hard to figure out.  No smell any where in the coach.  All is fresh today.  Will the water down the vent pipe go into the black tank??? I just want to make sure this vent is open.

I did put water down the roof vent just to verify that it wasn't blocked.  I poured it from a gallon jug and didn't have any leaks.  My problem turned out to be the gasket between the toilet and the floor flange.  I don't remember the details but I ended up ordering the gasket from FOT.  Good luck

As many times others have noted(me too) the back vents are the main reason for smells., or when driving and at same time leaving the roof vent open.(back pressure)
I would suggest checking the one for toilet and bathroom vanity.

One of my educations on the smell issue was not the black tank but the grey tank, so I started adding some of the additive and Bingo, smell went away. Always getting educated is a good thing.

Mike Rogers from MOT told me a great way to clean out both tanks.  Get a box of Gain powder laundry detergent, mix up about 10 scoops of it in a bucket of water and flush into each tank.  Fill tanks at least 1/2 full, then drive to slosh around. 

We put in the Gain, then just used the tanks and drove to our next stop with about 3/4 full tanks sloshing around- dumped when we got in.  Really cleaned the tanks out and now I use some dishwashing detergent ( usually Walmart brand as opposed to Dawn) in each tank with water after I dump.  Since we live full time in our coach, I will probably do the Gain thing as needed since it is easy and cheap.
