Cummins 8.3 Mechanical Throttle Position Sensor Location

8.3 Cummins mechanical 3060 Allison. Where is the throttle position sensor? Not on p- pump ,not in Ecu ,there is none, not on transmission. Where is it?

If you have the king control throttle systems it is built into.

Installed an air throttle on my 98 U270 when King went up.  The Allison MD3060R would not shift normally until I installed a External TPS. Found one on eba y and made a bracket to attach it to air throttle. Then took it to Allison dealer to get counts set. All is goodâ˜ș

I feel your pain.  I worry about our Bendix cruise control dying, since parts are no longer available, but if that does happen at least my air throttle will still function.  However, I would not want to drive our coach very far without a cruise control...too fatiguing.  Since I already have a stand-alone TPS in place (connected to the Allison transmission), my hope is that some aftermarket electronic cruise control module could be adapted to my all mechanical engine.  The big problem would be where to pick up a "engine speed" input...  Perhaps the existing engine tachometer sender?

I've been wondering if the TPS on a King setup might not be incorporated into the  pedal assembly.  Think I'll record the at idle and full throttle ohms, seems like if you duplicate this with another linear potentiometer, perhaps a standard $29.95  tps unit for a car, (depending on proper range availability)  it should work without having to be re initialized by Cummins.  The air and hydraulic throttles are nifty, but the simplicity of a low friction cable is appealing.  Some of the new generation marine cables are nearly frictionless even when going though several bends.  The near straight shot on the coach should be especially easy.

One thing is sure though, the day is coming when the King throttle bites the dust.

The answer is....some are available, and some are not.  The air throttle consists of the air throttle valve (what the accelerator pedal is attached to), a long air hose, and the CC-5 air cylinder plus throttle cable.

The throttle valve can be replaced or rebuilt with readily available parts:  Williams Controls WM453109 Air Throttle Valve

The air hose is standard off the shelf hardware.

The air cylinder and throttle cable are the tough part.  The original parts used by FOT are no longer available, but it may be possible to find suitable replacements.  The thread linked below covers a discussion we had several years ago on this subject.
