Speedometer replacement

I need to replace the speedometer, as the odometer stopped working and went blank.  I have read the links concerning places to get a new one.  Can someone explain how to remove the old speedo?  I removed the white plastic retaining ring on the backside, but don't see how the unit is removed from the instrument panel.
Thanks, Mike

I am awaiting some comments here too as I had a replacement VDO speedo installed by MOT but I don't have the trip odometer feature set up. I get error message when I push the button for switching from continuous to trip.

This is an old posting which was apparently not answered at that time.  The front flange of the gauge is in a metal sandwich.  The method of disassembly is not obvious.

Has anyone done this?  Thanks, Harvey

I did mine but didn't post any pictures. As I recall there are small nuts that you remove to get the sandwich separated. Check on the search for this it may be there by someone else.
