2nd Diagnostic plug DD 6v92

Finally broke down and bought VMSPC. Yeah me! Now the bad news. I can't get it to work. :(

I've been working with Art at SilverLeaf doing lots of port swapping & voltage checking. First found no 12v at diagnostic plug. Pulled out my cigarette 12v adapter and patched in 12v. Still no luck. Found 2.4v on data+ and 2.1 on data-. Not sure what that means but Art thinks the diagnostic port is wired wrong or has a loose wire or something. Wants me to connect to the diagnostic port in the at the ECU to see if it works there. He said most coaches have one at the dash and another at the engine. I've never seen or heard of a diagnostic port in the engine compartment on a 6v92. I did a pretty thorough search but couldn't find anything. On the Detroit it's an ALDL 12pin port which is pretty bulky connector so should stand out. Anyone know it the 6v92 has another diagnostic port in the engine compartment?

I've never seen or heard of a diagnostic port in the engine compartment on a 6v92. I did a pretty thorough search but couldn't find anything. On the Detroit it's an ALDL 12pin port which is pretty bulky connector so should stand out. Anyone know it the 6v92 has another diagnostic port in the engine compartment?

Ken,

I don't know if there is a second diagnostic port and I don't see one on my DDEC II schematic but when i use my Pro-Link It powers up with the ignition switch on and will show 13+ ECU volts when running.  James T probably has the answer.

Bill Chaplin has a Silverleaf and he can probably tell you how his was hooked up.

I have a VMS II stand alone unit on my 6V92.  It plugs into a 12 pin (more like a blade) connector under the dash.  I got the VMS second (or third) hand and it had a round connector on the end.  I had to cut it off and patch the wires into the 12 pin plug (same as your photo).  I used the attached diagram to match up the signals (I downloaded it from the Silverleaf site).

I'm pretty sure there isn't a second plug on the engine.  If there is, it's not same 12 pin connector.  I have the DDEC disconnected on my coach due to some welding I'm doing.  All the connectors have environmental seals on them and are of a very different style.
I think I would have taken notice if I saw an unplugged 12 pin socket somewhere.

The connector under the dash is screwed in place and damage to the wires is unlikely.  I would be more suspicious of the VMSPC side of things. That maybe just my biased experience with these kind of things (you know...computers).

But you could piecing needles (like safety pins) through the wires on each side of the connection and verify continuity of each signal if you really want to verify the wiring.

@Jerry you just reminded me that Pierce put his Pro-Link on my mine in Quartzite back in January. It worked then. I'll bring that up when I talk to Art tomorrow.

@John Good to know it's working on your coach. Kent Speers has it working on his as well. So I know it can be done! :)

I remember my Pro-Link worked fine on your U300 with all of the functions working. One of the selections on the Pro-Link is a voltage check. There are only five pins used in the twelve pin connector. Here is a link to what each of the active pins does: 12 pin ddl connector p/n 12020043 - TM-9-2320-363-20-1_322

No connector in the engine compartment as far as I know. Agree with above that the VMSPC must be faulty.

The VMSPC does not have the fast idle function or the injector testing, etc as it operates in the passive mode only. Jerry has an extra Pro-Link I think he may want to sell. The VMSPC display is very nice and until the Pro-Link can be ported to a tablet, it can only display four lines at a time. It does print out the info though. Raymond Davis at the Prevost forum has an excellent wireless bluetooth glass dash for a Detroit using an iPad so could be placed on top of the analog instrument panel. A bit pricy though compared to the VMSPC but looks great! Again, is passive only. See his excellent display with a downloadable app at Apple's app store here: RV Dash on the App Store on iTunes

Things went a little better today. Turns out the tech that built my cable (that would be Art the guy I'm doing the troubleshooting with) built the mirror image of the pin out. I don't blame him for him for that. I screwed up plenty of times when he asked me to measure pin outs. Seems easy but not so much. :) I ended up cutting the wires and splicing them back correctly. So all my voltages look correct going in to the JIB but the USB side will not hook up to the pc. I'm using a Mac running VmWare Windows 7. Art wants me to verify that I get the same error on a real windows pc to be sure it's the JIB. If so he'll send me another JIB.

I'll be begging my son in law to use his laptop to run the test. Will post results.
