Need advice on Shur flo water pump

I am looking for guidance in what to check for. While the wife was giving the dog a bath, she said we have no water. Checked the tank, 3/4 full. The pump wasn't running, but was too hot to put my hand on it. Checked the inline fuse, the plastic end came off leaving the blades in the fuse holder.

Replaced the fuse, let the motor cool down, turned the pump back on. It built up pressure, slowed but never stopped. It was turning very slow, maybe 25-50 rpm. Where to check? The pump is about 3 months old, replaced by the PO just before I bought the coach.

Any help appreciated. We are stopped for the next few weeks, can run off of city water, but prefer the better pressure from the tank.

Thanks in advance,

Larry,
Do you have a ShurFlo 5.7?
If so, search ShurFlo 5.7 on this forum and on the internet.  Unreliable to outright dangerous and best replaced...IMO.

If pump was still turning, even slightly, there is possibly a leak in your system and pump is trying to maintain pressure. In doing so it will eventually overheat and quit til it cools off. Even the smallest leak will cause this.

Larry,  What Shurflo model pump do you have?  It sounds like the 5.7 model which is known to get hot and not run.

The 5.7 was Shurflo's variable speed pump that uses an electronic circuit board located in the base.  They no longer make a variable pump, and have replaced it with 4008 & larger 4048, which have a bullet-proof non-electronic variable flow using an internal bypass during low water flows.

If you have a 5.7, calling Shurflo may result in a free new 4008 or 4048, which they used to do several years ago.  For sure if the pump manufactured date is less than 3-years, most dealers will exchange it, over 3-yrs, dealers can't handle it.

A failed 5.7 can quickly and easily changed to a fixed speed by connecting the 12-volt positive supply line to the short red wire going from the base to the front pressure switch.  Usually not a good reason to scrap the pump as it can be used to transfer water into the fresh water tank, if needed.  When we are in Quartzsite, we carry 5 gallon Lowe's buckets to carry water to our parked motorhome using our old "modified" Shurflo 5.7 water pump.

Thanks all for the responses, this forum rocks.

Took the outlet side of the pump off, turned pump on momentarily to flush out, put cap on. Pump went to pressure and shut off. Removed cap, put back together, so far, all is well in the water world again. It is a 5.7, so my confidence level isn't high. The manufacture date is 9/2011 so probably no joy.

Again thanks for all the fast help. You guys are the greatest ^.^d  ^.^d

Your pump is not that old, just one year after 3-yr warranty end, call Shurflo, plead your case for a free 4048 and eliminate another problem which will likely happen.

I will give it a try Barry. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
