Di=electric grease

Anyone have trouble with the cruise control because of too much Di-electric grease on rear stop light  bulbs?

Most cruise control systems need to see a ground on the hot side of the brake light bulb.  The ground connection is from the bulb's ground, through the bulb's filament.  If something increases the resistance (like maybe grease?), it is possible for it to interfere with cruise control.  Did it work again after cleaning off grease? Ground connection is needed so the cruise knows that when brakes are applied, the bulb will light and the cruise circuit knows it will see 12v positive to turn cruise off.  I all brake bulbs are burned out or missing usually cruise will not engage.

Check the connections at the brake light switch.  These are located in the 1st driver side compartment at the front wall of the enclosure. This area is susseptible to moisture and rust.

I cleaned the contacts on the bulbs and sockets. Cruise still won't engage.

These are located in the front bagage compartment below the driver's side.

Talk about a surprise.. this is news to me.  I've been trying to figure out what's keeping my CC from working for longer than awhile.
Would this brake light situation keep the hi-idle from working? 
I've replaced most everything in the CC system and left the tail lights alone because they seem to be doing their job fwiw.. pc
