94 U280 Cummins 8.3 Temperature Sensor

94 U280 Cummins 8.3
My temperature gauge never moves off of 100. I have checked the connections to the gauge...  It does a small jump when I turn on the key so I think that the gauge is ok.  I found a sensor coming out of the bottom of the radiator is this the one that goes to the gauge? Seems like it should be in the block but what is this one for?

Karl,

Check the wire number and compare to your wiring diagram OR disconnect and see what leaving it off or MOMENTARILY grounding it (just touch it to ground) does to the gauges.

Strongly suspect it is transmission temperature sender.

Thank Brett!

It was the transmission temp.  Now to figure out why I have no engine temp reading......
