1991 36ft Grand Villa in the local paper today.

I came across this one in todays paper.
1991 Foretravel Grande Villa, Unihome.  Good shape, 2A/c's,2 HTR,74 gal propane tank, 148gal fule tank. NEEDS ENGINE!!
They are asking $10,000 or offer??
Telephones, local, 406-579-6179 and WA 206-794-6198.
It is located in Ennis, MT. which is South of 1-90, West of Bozeman and SE of Helena.
Could be a good challenge for someone??

Begs the question: What happened to the engine? How good a shape could it be without an engine. On another thought: Would go into it with eyes open as to the major thing it needed. ^.^d

I guess a 'phone call to ask what the heck happened to the engine would be in order.
I feel that they mean that it has a bad engine, not that it is actually missing??
If anyone is interested and gives the guy a call, then needs someone to look at it, I am not too far away and would be happy to help.

With a 148 gal fuel tank that would mean it's a U280 or U300 (Cat 3208 or 6V92).
In '92 the U280 went to the Cummins 8.3 - a possibility.

its not worth 10 grand, the cost of new/used engine, freight, labor to install and out fit is a lot.  If the MH was 1 grand, you still have to get it some where to work on it.  If I had an engine and tranny setting around, i still would think about it for a long time.

A year or so ago one of our members with a U225 had his engine fail (in TX I think). He ended up paying $10k for a brand new Cummins 5.9 engine and installation and drove it home to PA. Put it up for sale and sold it almost immediately for something in the $20s I think. If it were my motor home and my engine sitting in my backyard I'd plop for the $10k price (this was a deal from Cummins and a Cummins authorized shop). (I might even get the Allison 643 rebuilt while I was at it!)

For another rig sitting hundreds of miles away I'd have to ponder it a lot. I suspect Cummins could come close to a brand new 8.3 for around $10k (installed). It would not surprise me much if there weren't quite a few of these sitting around. Not sure if it's a Cat or DD.

Depending upon how the rig is it could be a sweet deal for $20,000 with a brand new engine (and maybe a rebuilt tranny).

This coach is located at Ennis, MT according to the ad' and that is about 55mls from Bozeman, and 105mls from Helena which would be the nearest shops that could move it and fix it. That would have to be added to the equation before making any plans.

I took a look but it's no longer listed. Only worth about $3000 with a bad engine. If you looked, you might find a deal on a 8.3 or 6V-92TA but a shop would charge a fortune for an exchange engine. Thinking about $20K plus installed. A used engine would be MUCH less expensive but a shop would still charge around $2000 to install it. Towing charges, fluids, all the misc stuff add up in a hurry.

Unless someone has an engine sitting around, it will be a tough sell.

Yeah that is a silly deal. We paid oly a couple coachbucks more for Moby, which, like, drove under its own power and sruff.

The last time I checked a used PowerTech 10k generator, (assuming it is a U300) with integral radiator was worth between $6K and $8K all by itself. If the tranny and other parts of the drive train are good parting it out might bring more than $10K.

The same 1991 GV is in todays paper with a $10,000 or offer price.
They have added a clarification to the "Needs Engine" part of the ad' and now say, needs Fuel Pump or Engine???  maybe not so bad at the right price, and a good diesel mechanic to check the engine out.
