A year or so ago one of our members with a U225 had his engine fail (in TX I think). He ended up paying $10k for a brand new Cummins 5.9 engine and installation and drove it home to PA. Put it up for sale and sold it almost immediately for something in the $20s I think. If it were my motor home and my engine sitting in my backyard I'd plop for the $10k price (this was a deal from Cummins and a Cummins authorized shop). (I might even get the Allison 643 rebuilt while I was at it!)
For another rig sitting hundreds of miles away I'd have to ponder it a lot. I suspect Cummins could come close to a brand new 8.3 for around $10k (installed). It would not surprise me much if there weren't quite a few of these sitting around. Not sure if it's a Cat or DD.
Depending upon how the rig is it could be a sweet deal for $20,000 with a brand new engine (and maybe a rebuilt tranny).
