CPL question

Ran across something that I need a few select year and model owners help with if they can?

Need the number on the side of the cummins m11 97-99 U320 engine plate.

Looking for the CPL  number

passenger side of the engine is where the spec plate is located.  Lift bed and look behind the wiring loom on that side.

Will be either CPL 2178 or CPL 2025.

Your build number and the CPL number will help my research.

M11 only.  Not ISM's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bob

Bob, just curious, what are you working on?

Shop researched changing my CPL 2178 to a higher power setting.

The list of needed parts was extensive.

I need to check if the upgraded setting they are looking at are accurate.

First thing I found was that the 2025 CPL seems to be a m14.

Need non ism m11 CPL numbers to verify they are correct in the list of needed parts to upgrade your old m11.

Currently it's 420/1050 versus the advertised 450-1450.  Ordered as a 420/1050 from cummins  JEP=Jamestown Engine Plant and built on 22 Nov 1996

Need other m11 CPL numbers to see how many were ordered as 2178's and what other numbers are in similar coaches

Bob, Cummins can hook up and read your configuration, and can upgrade it to the 450 Hp @ 1450 ft lb if it is not already at that setting. If they know you, you might be able to have them install a little higher setting into the ECM, if they do not know or trust you, they will most likely not set above the 450 @ 1450 ft lb.  All the settings are on their computer, they just pick what they want and send it to your ECM.
Just my opinion working with my local Cummins guys.  We have always worked well together, might be why my creation is a bit more on the upper side than the 500 @ 1550 ft lb.  They talked about 580 hp at one point, unsure if that is where it is and do not care, it is fun to drive.  You do not need a speedometer to tell if your gaining speed.

All that's great.  But the shops quick serve says to change from a 2178 to  what they say is the upgraded 2025 is $12k worth of parts.

I am trying to verify the 2025 is the correct CPL for the 450/1450's as installed in other U320 M11 celect plus 450 E's

First response is a different CPL number.

Double checking the shops info to me.  No trust at all.

Block and below are fine to go from 420-1050 but the entire top end according to the 2025 CPL they say is the 450/1450 would need changing and the ECM and turbo.

I knew there was something wrong the first day I drove it.  Turns out I was correct.  Just lower powered than the other possible versions depending on the critical parts list.

Perfect condition just down on possible power.

Exactly what I need to do to upgrade the power is where I am at after three and 1/2 years.

Many steps.  Done this many times long ago

Possible the ism stuff might work?

That is exactly why it took their book worm over 2 days checking to see if my CPL would support any upgrades, they)determined all I needed was the rare (there are 3, just one that is the special one) waste gate turbo, the sender on the intake that controls the waste gate on the turbo, and they located the wiring harness where the sensor plugs into. Then the new ECM program was all mine needed.  the base engine is the same as the later 500, just no EGR, but same head, injectors, pistons, rods etc.  I had earlier installed the girdle that the 500 units have standard.  They indicated only the units after late 99 run had these features like mine and could be up graded, The early units like yours, they would not touch them.
One funny, all the shops in Nac, know my coach has a very different engine.

As far as ism's I think you info is correct.

I need the m11 celect plus info

Poster above has a different CPL on a m11 celect plus 450E.

Bob,
I just had my ECM updated earlier this week.  I'm looking at the Insight printout for my M11 Celect Plus.  The CPL is 2371.  HP listed is 450, torque is 1450 at 1200 rpm.

What was the CPL on the engine itself?

99's have a 10k tow rating.  97 and 98's are 6k.  Need to find out what CPL numbers are on what year coaches

Thanks

Here is what the cummins critical parts list and settings if for a CPL 2178

The other list is the CPL 2025  critical parts list difference needed.

I am trying to see if there was an intermediate CPL that uses the 2178 parts but has more power and to see what CPL setup's otters got.

Bob,

This may not be at all helpful — in fact, I may understand so little about the topic of this post that I'm answering the wrong question.  But you asked about CPL numbers for 97-99 M11s.

Our coach is a 1999 U320, Build #5567.  But I think (?) ours is an ISM.  The last printout I have from Cummins Atlantic, when they read all the act and inactive fault codes, shows the CPL # as being 260800, but the engine model as an ISM-RV450.  Sounds like the engine you DON'T want to know about?

So far no one has a 2025 CPL which is according to the shop the 450/1450 set of parts in the engine.

The CriticalPartsList(CPL) of 2178 is not the advertised hp of 450 and not the advertised torque of 1450.

It's 420/1050 instead and cannot be turned up without replacing basically the entire top of the engine.

Will see what a CPL2371 actually is in hp/torque.

All the CPL2178 are detuned

Will report back what a 2371 actually is in hp/torque.

Working on a different part of the system also.

If I can't easily increase the power then the power consuming drives need a looking at.

Seems I may have found a big power draw off all 94-98 production with a side drive radiator.

May or may not be necessary.  Probably not.

Love a challenge/mystery

Especially if the results are better mpg and more power 90% of the time.

Yes.  All coaches

Bob and others.

I just found the time to check the CPL on my 1999 and its 2371. The engine ref on quickserve is M11-450E+

Performance wise I have timed 0-60 several times (usually leaving a rest stop thats flat) and our coach is right around 23s give or take depending on where the tanks are at. We go down the road at 29K give or take...

It would be interesting to start a collection of 0-60 times (along with weights) as it would give everybody an easy way to check if their coach is performing as expected.

Cheers

We sometimes tow our Mini and the only way I know it's back there is by looking at the rear camera... The 23s 0-60 is just the coach.
